ESRB Listing Hints Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine Master Crafted on PS5, Switch 2
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition is reportedly preparing to expand to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2, after first arriving on PC and Xbox Series X|S and debuting straight into Xbox Game Pass last June.
A new ESRB entry for the title originally listed both PS5 and Switch 2 alongside PC, but those console references have since been taken out of the listing.
Sega is the publisher driving the release, holding the rights to the Relic Entertainment-developed third-person shooter. The first version launched with THQ publishing duties in 2011 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. This remastered “Master Crafted Edition,” developed by SneakyBox, is advertised with a 4K output option, updated controls, a full interface refresh, improved character appearances, and remastered sound—along with more than 100 new voice lines for the Orks.
Even with those upgrades on paper, the Master Crafted Edition faced backlash from players during last summer. Steam users were especially vocal, pointing to the game’s cost as being out of step with the scale of the changes compared to the well-regarded Anniversary Edition. Many of the complaints focused on how the update handled usability, with some players saying the adjustments made things worse rather than better. On top of that, matchmaking friction—specifically difficulty finding teammates online—led some to label the remaster a “cash grab.”
That reaction pushed Sega to respond. On Steam, the publisher introduced an extended refund window, offered a 50% upgrade-path discount to players who already owned the Anniversary Edition, and laid out a patch roadmap. When the game initially launched, Steam reviews were rated “Mostly Negative.” After a year of updates and course-corrections, that overall sentiment has shifted to “Mixed.”
With updates apparently tapering off in September of last year, the hope for any new platform release is that the Master Crafted Edition lands with a meaningful patch included. Regardless, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine did eventually get a follow-up in the form of Space Marine 2, which arrived in 2024 and became a major breakout. The momentum has been strong enough that Space Marine 3 is already in development.
