New Gaming Lounge Opens in Gaza to Bring Moments of Joy Amid War
With fighting continuing across Gaza and many families still trying to survive amid constant strikes, a small pocket of normal life has started to take shape in the middle of the rubble. In one cramped building, a new gaming lounge has opened its doors—an attempt to carve out a moment of joy for people who’ve had almost nothing to look forward to.
A New Gaming Lounge Has Opened Up In Gaza As The Israel Offensive Continues
Muhanad Bakroon, who lives in Gaza, says he lost his home in 2023 and is now relying on donations to help his family rebuild. The goal is to cover essentials for getting back on their feet, including renting a new apartment and buying a new laptop so he can return to work. Bakroon also notes that he’s been forced to move seven separate times since the war started.
Using his Reddit account under the name Alternative_Fuel2433, Bakroon has been documenting daily life and the wider situation in Gaza. His posts include images of families collecting water from a community tap, alongside photos of vendors selling medical supplies from bags set out along the roadside. The tone of his latest update is different, focused on something that looks less like survival and more like escape.
In his most recent post, Bakroon shares a picture of “Doctor Game,” described as a small gaming venue surrounded by heavily damaged structures. He says the space includes two PS4 systems running games such as FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer, plus several PCs set aside for gaming. Even with the destruction all around it, the setup is presented as a place where young people can step away from the immediate threat outside.
Doctor Game is also framed as a potential anchor for Gaza’s youth, since many teenagers and children have few options for relief from the violence around them. Bakroon’s post has drawn attention from others who use the story to highlight Palestinian resilience—living through a crisis while still trying to find pockets of play and community.
Quick facts
- A gaming lounge called “Doctor Game” has been shown inside a small building amid destroyed surroundings in Gaza.
- The venue is described as having two PS4 consoles with FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer, plus gaming PCs.
- Bakroon says he lost his home in 2023 and has been displaced seven times since the war began.
- He’s raising funds to cover a new apartment, a laptop, and other costs so he can work again.
- Supporters are also pointing to recreational activities as part of helping children cope with conflict.
The push for recreation as a coping tool isn’t just personal—it’s echoed by humanitarian voices. UNICEF has said that putting recreational activities back in place is “a critical role” in helping normalize a child’s environment. Warchild adds that “A child affected by conflict requires a lot more than basic necessities like drinking water, sufficient food and a roof over its head,” suggesting that spaces like Doctor Game may help close part of that gap.
Bakroon’s fundraising effort ties directly to his family’s next steps. He reports that he has collected just under $1,000 so far, with a target of $6,350. That minimum is intended to cover a home, a laptop, a small studio, electricity, and internet—so he can resume working.
In a separate development from the wider games industry, STJV union members at Arkane Studios have announced their support for the BDS movement. Their stated focus is a boycott of Xbox products, driven by concerns about Microsoft’s connections with Israel.
