Limited DualSense PS5 Controller Goes Up for Pre-Order in Select Regions
PlayStation 5 players can now place pre-orders for a new limited run DualSense controller aimed at collectors—though it comes with a couple of strings attached. This release is time-limited and tied to a specific region, and it’s also already appeared in some places internationally for PS5 owners, meaning certain players may have already been able to grab one for their setups.
There’s also a strong chance that distinctive PS5 DualSense editions will keep climbing in value over the next few years. Sony has already confirmed that physical disc production will stop in January 2028, which strongly suggests the next PlayStation generation will lean digital-first. That would make the PS5 the final PlayStation system to include a disc drive, so collectors may want to stay on top of PS5 hardware and accessories while they can, since prices are likely to keep rising as availability tightens.
Of course, that future collectibility doesn’t help anyone currently trying to afford a PS5 itself—those looking to buy Sony’s newest console may soon find they’re paying more than they expected.

PlayStation has officially started taking pre-orders for the PS5 DualSense Wireless Controller Icon Blue Special Edition, timed for its special August 6 release in Japan. Players outside Japan might still recognize the design, because it wasn’t entirely new everywhere—just new to the Japanese market.
In Japan, pre-orders began on June 30 via participating PlayStation retailers. PlayStation listed a tax-included suggested retail price of 12,480 yen, and each package ships with the limited-edition controller plus an instruction manual.
While the controller’s look may already be familiar to some, this is its official debut in PlayStation’s home region. The Icon Blue design first launched in the United States as a Walmart exclusive, and now Japanese fans are getting their first opportunity to buy it through standard local pre-order channels. For the moment, the August 6 launch remains exclusive to Japan.
Visually, the DualSense Wireless Controller Icon Blue Special Edition stands out with a layered blue-and-navy color scheme that differs from the standard PS5 controller options. The touchpad is finished with glossy PlayStation symbols, and the rear panel includes Japanese text that spells out “PlayStation.”
Aside from the cosmetics, the hardware is otherwise the same as other DualSense controllers. It features adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, a built-in microphone, and motion controls. It also supports PS5, PC, Mac, and compatible mobile devices using wired USB-C or wireless Bluetooth connections.
PlayStation hasn’t confirmed whether this controller will expand beyond Japan or other currently available regions, but the good news for local buyers is that they no longer have to wait for Japanese retailers to stock it. Sony also hasn’t provided details on how long pre-orders or sales will last, so anyone interested in securing one should move sooner rather than later.
