In Gothic 1 Remake, Scatty’s early locked chest is one of the first real tests of your lockpicking skills—and it also ties directly into a quest given by Fingers. If you’ve already spoken to Fingers, you’ll receive the task A Ring for Fingers, which asks you to open Scatty’s chest, retrieve what’s inside, and bring it back. Completing the objective earns favor and pushes you forward toward the broader Casting Shadows storyline.

How the Lock Plates Move

Understanding the plate behavior helps you avoid confusion if you’re experimenting or reattempting. Here’s how each plate affects others:

• The first plate also moves the fourth plate.
• The second plate also moves the fifth plate.
• The third plate also moves the fifth plate.
• The fourth plate also moves the second, third, and fifth plates.
• The fifth plate does not move any other plates.

How to Find Fingers

To start A Ring for Fingers, you’ll need to speak with Diego after you reach the Old Camp. Ask him who can teach you useful skills, and he’ll point you toward Fingers.

Fingers can be found on the northern side of the Old Camp. Starting from the gate guarded by Thorus, head left—go past Snaf and Mud—and then look for an alleyway on the right. Fingers will be located there.

How to Find Scatty’s Hut

Scatty’s Hut is positioned right next to Fingers. If you’re facing Fingers, look to your left—Scatty’s Hut is just below his own.

From Fingers, turn around to face the opposite direction, then go right and follow the path downward until you reach Scatty’s Hut.

Scatty’s Chest Rewards

After you successfully open the chest, you’ll find the following items inside:

• Scatty’s Ring
• Pan
• 4x Cheese
• 2x Bread
• Razor
• Pickaxe
• 16x Ore

Return to Fingers to Finish the Quest

Once you’ve looted the chest, make the short walk back to Fingers and give him Scatty’s Ring to complete A Ring for Fingers.

You’ll receive 100 experience points. Fingers will also vouch for you when Diego asks questions later, helping you move closer to completing Casting Shadows.
