Gothic 1 Remake Focus Stone Quest Guide: Nyras Location and Objectives
The Focus Stone is a Swamp Camp quest in Gothic 1 Remake that begins in Chapter 2. After you meet Y’Berion during the main storyline, the quest has you locate a novice named Nyras and then track down the nearby Focus Stone.
Quest checks, prerequisites, and objectives
The Focus Stone is tied to finishing Chapter 2 and the quest The Brotherhood’s Plan. Depending on which camp allegiance you chose, you might not even have access to The Brotherhood’s Plan, which can affect whether this questline is available to you.
If you only need help with a specific part of the job, here are the key objectives you’ll be moving through:
- Find Nyras by the Entrance
- How to Find the Focus Stone (Follow Nyras)
- Keeping Nyras Alive
- Fighting Nyras
- Return to Y’Berion

- In-game objective for The Focus Stone: “I should get the focus stone.”
To start The Focus Stone, Y’Berion tells you to speak with Nyras. You can usually locate Nyras close to the Swampweed mashing station, but once the quest begins, he relocates. At that point, he’ll stand near the town entrance by Lester and Ball Namib.
Talk to him. After he finishes being shocked that you’re connected to Y’Berion, he agrees to guide you to the focus stone and even provides a map showing the route. He’ll also allow you to simply follow along—so your next step is to travel with Nyras toward the stone.
How to find the Focus Stone by following Nyras
Nyras leads you out of the Swamp using the regular route from Old Camp toward Swamp Camp. Follow him along the path uphill until he leaves the main trail at the top, turning off to the right.
As you move deeper, wolves become a frequent problem. Early on, you might run into small groups of two or three, but farther into the forest there’s a larger pack—enough to spot you and launch an attack. Nyras is capable in a fight, but he can’t reliably handle a bigger pack by himself, so jump in and help whenever the numbers start to climb.
From your first wolf encounter, keep turning right and push into the forest until you spot a cave entrance ahead. Face the cave entrance and turn left to find a new dirt path. The goal here is to work your way toward Swamp Camp from this raised cliff position.
Next up: you’ll run into a group of five Adult Scavengers. Try to divide the attention so you’re both engaged rather than Nyras taking everything alone. If you split the pressure and take two or three of them while he handles the rest, the fight becomes much more manageable. Also remember that a downward-strike can knock a Scavenger down temporarily.
If Nyras takes too much damage, he’ll be knocked down. When his health becomes extremely low, he’ll sheathe his weapon and start running until the area is clear. The problem is that enemies may then redirect their aggression toward him and chase him, so it can be harder to clean up the fight. Keep an eye on who is attacking you first, and deal with those threats before trying to “rescue” Nyras.
Once the Scavengers are dealt with, you should spot an archway in the distance. Keep moving and go through it.
Inside the ruins, there’s not much to interact with besides berries and mushrooms. Continue along the primary route through town and pass through the next archway as well.
Further ahead is a stone staircase with a statue beside it. Climb the stairs, then press deeper into the forest, walking along the path between the stone columns.
The trail bends, and you’ll pass a line of lit braziers. Ahead is a bubble of magic—the area you’re looking for. Save right here before you walk up to the bubble, because a cutscene will begin immediately after.
Your amulet disrupts the magical bubble, which knocks you down. Nyras grabs the Focus Stone and pockets it.
After it happens, go talk to Nyras. He reacts with intense jealousy and begins fighting you regardless of which dialogue choices you select.
Fighting Nyras (and what to do after)
If Nyras took a lot of damage from earlier encounters, he’s likely already half-wounded. When he attacks, watch for his three-hit swing sequence: dodge the combo, then strike during the openings. He isn’t more dangerous than other human enemies, and you may find the fight easier than anything you faced in Chapter 1 since you’re likely stronger now.
After you knock him down, you can either kill him or loot him. The important part is to pick up the focus stone—it’s listed as “Focus from Ocean Cliff”. Doing this advances the quest.
Once he stands back up, he asks what happened. The Focus Stone seems to have made him lose control. He doesn’t even recall attacking you, and he apologizes—then tells you to bring the stone to Y’Berion.
Return to Y’Berion and finish the quest
- In-game objective: “I should take the focus stone to Y’Berion.”
With the Focus Stone in your inventory, retrace your steps back to Swamp Camp and speak with Y’Berion to move the quest forward.
When you reach the entrance to Swamp Camp, you can reach the temple faster by taking a left at Lester and Baal Namib.
Talk to Y’Berion and the quest ends. You’ll receive 750 Experience Points. If you ask about a reward, he hands you an Amulet of Fire. You can also tell him about what happened with Nyras. However, Y’Berion isn’t finished with you yet.
Ask what else he needs help with, and you’ll begin a new quest, The Almanac, in which he wants you to retrieve a tome from the Fire Mages in Old Camp so Y’Berion can prepare for their ritual.
