Netflix Report: Live-Action Persona Series in the Works, Persona 4 Revival Next

A fresh report says Netflix is developing a live-action adaptation of Persona. At the same time, the franchise’s creator has been busy on multiple fronts, including confirming the next mainline entry and gearing up for the arrival of Persona 4 Revival.

Developed by P-Studios, an ATLUS division, the Persona series began life as a spin-off within the broader Shin Megami Tensei universe. The first game, Revelations: Persona, launched in 1996, and the franchise has since grown into four additional mainline releases plus a collection of spin-offs. Earlier this month, Persona 6 was also confirmed—nearly a decade after Persona 5 and about six years after Persona 5 Royal. With the saga now pushing into its 30th year, it also looks like the franchise is ready to take a swing at live-action TV.

Persona 5 is meanwhile still very much active in the crossover space, teaming up with Call of Duty: Mobile for an official in-game partnership. The collaboration brings limited outfits, themed activities, and additional in-game content.

Persona Is Getting a Live-Action TV Show on Netflix

Netflix is reportedly working on a live-action television adaptation of the Persona series. The project is said to have Christopher Monfette in a major creative role, serving as writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

Production duties are tied to 21 Laps, with Shawn Levy and Robert Artwood connected to overseeing the series. Additional executive producers include Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson from Story Kitchen.

SEGA’s Toru Nakahara is also listed as an executive producer. At the moment, there’s no clear indication of whether the adaptation will follow a particular mainline Persona installment or build an entirely new narrative.

This isn’t the first time a Persona live-action project has surfaced. Back in 2022, Nakahara said SEGA was weighing live-action versions of several ATLUS properties, including Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, and Catherine. Among those options, Persona is often considered the most recognizable globally, which makes it a likely candidate for a TV push.

Even so, Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed a Persona adaptation for its lineup. The streaming platform has plenty of experience adapting video game IP, however. A major example is its live-action The Witcher series, and it has also delivered acclaimed animated projects such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Devil May Cry, and Arcane.

Story Kitchen is also part of the production picture, and the company is known for working on video game adaptations. It’s additionally leading Amazon MGM’s live-action Tomb Raider series.

What’s happening around Persona right now
