Mass Effect 2 Side Quests Guide: Find All Assignments and Locations Fast
Welcome to the Side Quests portion of the Mass Effect 2 guide. In the game, these optional activities are labeled Assignments. In general, the list below is available to complete, with a small number of exceptions on Illium.
If you’re trying to find something quickly, you can jump to the relevant section by using the links provided in the guide.
Assignments are organized into six groups based on when you’re able to pick them up during your playthrough. Some are straightforward chores, while at least one is an open-ended Assignment that won’t become available until you’re roughly halfway through the main story.
Checklists
Citadel Assignments are found in the Citadel itself—the central hub and political core of Citadel Space. A number of these are simple tasks, while another is the open-ended style that only unlocks later in the campaign.
- Citadel Assignments
Illium Assignments take place on Illium, a prominent Asari city known for its glow on the surface and its darker undercurrent beneath. Several of these revolve around grabbing an item during one of the main Missions that occur there, while others depend on outcomes you achieved in the original Mass Effect.
- Illium Assignments
N7 Assignments are a different category: they don’t happen in the game’s major hub worlds. Instead, each one takes place inside its own smaller, dedicated area. Like the UNC Assignments from Mass Effect 1, they open up gradually as you advance through the central storyline.

Post-Freedom’s Progress N7 Assignments

Rogue VI Virus N7 Assignments

Blue Suns N7 Assignments

The remaining Assignments are obtained while you’re on the Normandy. However, even when you start them there, completing them will still require you to travel to one of the other hub locations.

Omega Assignments all occur at the station associated with Aria T’Loak. Within this group, one Assignment involves collecting an item during a Dossier Mission, and another requires you to make visits to both the Citadel and Illium.
- Omega Assignments
Tuchanka Assignments take place on Tuchanka, the Krogan homeworld. Notably, two of these can be completed during the same Loyalty Mission.
