My Hero Academia: Best Non-First-Year Students Ranked by Power and Potential
Izuku Midoriya and Bakugo Katsuki are two standout students in My Hero Academia, each proving their promise through the mastery of their Quirks. Along with other top performers from Class 1-A, including Shoto Todoroki and Fumikage Tokoyami, they frequently outshine many formidable non-first-year students from other schools.
Class 1-A’s students have since grown into Pro Heroes, with impressive placement across overall rankings.
Still, that doesn’t mean My Hero Academia lacks talented upperclassmen. With more mature Quirks and real combat experience, plenty of second- and third-year students could have easily surpassed the freshmen—if the series had let them prove it more often.
7 Camie Utsushimi’s Glamour Quirk Can Fool Almost Anyone
Camie Utsushimi is a laid-back second-year who often presents herself as naive or foolish, but her ability to enter one of the country’s top hero programs speaks to her intelligence, technique, and overall capability. She’s a skilled illusionist, making her a threat that’s difficult to read and even harder to predict.
Even if Camie’s Glamour Quirk isn’t as destructive as Seiji’s abilities, she can still dominate encounters thanks to the flexibility of her illusions. She can produce a doppelgänger of her opponent, and she can also bring an aurora-like sky into the fight. As far as limitations go, it largely comes down to her imagination.
6 Nagamasa Mora Is a Top Hero Candidate
Nagamasa Mora wouldn’t be serving as a class representative at Shiketsu High School if he weren’t capable enough to lead. He’s notably more disciplined than his peers, performing better in both academics and combat situations. He also carries himself with a very polite demeanor, constantly trying to uphold his school’s name.
On the battlefield, Nagamasa may not be the most lethal Quirk user, but he can still remove multiple lower-tier villains on his own. His Extend-o-Hair Quirk lets him extend his body hair, shaping it into a whip that works for both offense and defense. He can even sharpen it into strands capable of cutting through solid materials.

5 Yo Shindo Has One of My Hero Academia’s Best Area-of-Effect Quirks
Yo Shindo is a genuine force of nature in My Hero Academia. His Quirk, Vibrate, allows him to trigger severe earthquakes with a single touch. It’s also not limited to the ground—whatever Shindo touches begins to vibrate or produce tremors immediately upon direct contact.
During the Provisional Hero License Exam, Class 1-A struggled to coordinate while Shindo was active, since the earthquake-like effects kept the first-year students separated from each other. At one point, Shindo even managed to weaken Muscular by using the palpitations from his Quirk, before Izuku ultimately finished the villain.
4 Seiji Shishikura Is One of the Strongest Hero Students Outside U.A.
Seiji Shishikura is home to one of the most disturbing Quirks among upperclassmen in My Hero Academia. His Meatball Quirk gives him influence over flesh, letting him transform others into disfigured balls instantly. Because of how direct and unsettling his power is, even three of the strongest Class 1-A students had trouble bringing him down despite teaming up.
Seiji’s Quirk could easily fit the profile of a villain power, given the horrifying results it can cause. One of his inspirations for pursuing his own hero path is Stain, the Hero Killer. Like his idol, Seiji wanted to reshape the Hero Society on his own terms, though he wasn’t above using questionable tactics to do it.
3 Nejire Hado Is the Heart of U.A.’s Big Three
Nejire Hado wouldn’t be part of U.A. High School’s Big Three if she weren’t a promising senior. Her Quirk, Wave Motion, releases destructive spiral energy waves strong enough to hold off multiple high-end Nomu alongside Lemillion and Tamajiki. She even held her own against Tomura Shigaraki during the Final War.
Unlike Tamajiki, Nejire is social and genuinely eager to learn more about other people and their Quirks. Her upbeat energy spreads quickly, helping others stay optimistic even on the worst days. With that charisma, it’s no surprise many underclassmen look up to her.
2 Tamaki Amajiki’s Quirk Can Turn Any Meal Into a Superpower
Behind Tamaki Amajiki’s quiet, timid personality is a senior student with a seriously overpowered Quirk. His Manifest Quirk stands out even among other abilities: Tamaki can physically manifest the properties of anything he has eaten, and then amplify those traits. From tentacles and crab claws to bull horns, he can bring multiple features into play at once—and he can resize them whenever he wants.
Even highly respected Pro Heroes like Eraserhead and Fat Gum believe Tamaki’s Manifest Quirk has enormous potential, and that it could be stronger than most hero abilities. While Tamaki may not be the most relentlessly optimistic upperclassman, he still shows up reliably for his allies when things get rough.
1 Mirio Togata Was Built to Replace All Might
As one of U.A.’s Big Three, Mirio Togata has more than enough traits to succeed All Might as the new symbol of heroism and peace. He may not have inherited the One For All Quirk, but his Permeation ability makes him nearly unstoppable in combat.
By mastering his highly unstable Permeation Quirk, Lemillion can outmaneuver anyone in Class 1-A. His intangibility is the key advantage: he can phase through incoming attacks without being harmed. With an overpowered Quirk paired with real heroism and optimism, it makes sense that he eventually became the No. 1 hero later on.
