Forza Horizon 6 Save Loss Bug Could Be Nearing a Permanent Fix
Forza Horizon 6 players have been waiting for a reliable fix to one of the game’s most talked-about problems, and it looks like the studio has finally moved the save issue toward a permanent resolution. Even with a rocky start, the game still shattered expectations during Early Access—coming close to the 200,000 mark on Steam—while building serious momentum around Playground Games’ take on Japan.
However, the launch wasn’t spotless. About a week after release, players reported that their Forza Horizon 6 save data could be lost, with some claiming their entire campaign progress disappeared. Playground Games acknowledged the bug shortly after, rolled out temporary workarounds, and then delivered a patch aimed at lowering the likelihood of save corruption—while indicating that a deeper, longer-term solution was still in progress.
Ahead of Series 2, Playground Games has now released a new update for Forza Horizon 6, with a mix of adjustments and quality-of-life improvements.
Forza Horizon 6 Save Bug Gets Fixed
A new message from the official Forza Support account pointed players to an Xbox Series X/S system update that can be downloaded now. The communication says the update can address “some of the known data loss scenarios in Forza Horizon 6.” A second change, mentioned alongside the console update, is intended to further reduce the odds of full save data loss.
The support post also clarifies what happens if data loss still occurs. When players launch the game again after an issue, they should see a message on startup that lets them use the Xbox cloud save feature to restore the most recent version available. The studio notes that some progression loss may still happen depending on when the game saved, but the goal is to limit the damage to a single session instead of wiping the entire campaign.

Which one doesn’t belong?
What was changed behind the scenes wasn’t spelled out in detail. While the Forza Support post references Xbox, the June 30 notes for the related system update are still fairly general, only describing “General stability and performance improvements.” For now, Forza Horizon 6 players will need to rely on the studio’s claim that the save issue has been fully neutralized and won’t return.
Other Launch Problems: AI Difficulty and The Eliminator Exploit
Save loss wasn’t the only complaint to hit Forza Horizon 6 after launch. Players also reported that Drivatar AI felt overtuned, making races far tougher than expected. The community quickly turned it into a recurring joke, rallying around an “AI villain” named Bowie_knife99. The drivatar became the punchline for memes and blame posts online, with the character treated as the source of everything going wrong. Playground Games later followed up with an update intended to bring those racers back into line.
Another issue involved The Eliminator, a mode that mixes a battle royale-style structure into the game. There was an exploit that allowed players to farm enormous amounts of in-game currency—effectively breaking Forza Horizon 6’s economy and Auction House. Playground Games disabled the affected part of the mode while working on a fix, and then offered a goodwill reward to players for the interruption. The studio handed out a free 2021 McLaren Sabre in Forza Horizon 6 alongside the update that resolved the exploit.
