Binding of Isaac Rebirth Debug Console: Commands, Seeds, and Cheat Tips
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth includes a PC-only debug console that lets you type commands to spawn items, grant unlimited health, and toggle a range of testing-style cheats. On top of that, the game supports special seed codes that can dramatically change a run—everything from making enemies harder to spot to increasing the damage you suffer and even swapping the game’s look.
This guide walks you through enabling the console, shows the full list of console commands and special seed codes, and points out a few of the most practical uses for players.
Console access is restricted to PC. If you’re playing on a console version, you can’t use console commands, but you can still use Easter egg seeds.
Before diving in, it’s worth knowing that The Binding of Isaac item behavior is often tied to what each collectible actually does—this includes passive items and active ones like cards, runes, and pills.
Quick facts: Isaac debug console and cheat seeds
At a glance
- Debug console commands are available only on PC.
- Console players can’t use console commands, but can use Easter egg seeds.
- You can enable the console either by installing a mod or by editing the game’s options.ini.
- The console is opened with the grave/tilde key (` / ~), typically near Esc.
- Special seeds can be entered before starting a run and can create both gameplay and visual changes.
- Key warning: some commands can crash the game or permanently affect progress.
How to enable the console commands
You’ve got two paths to unlock the debug console in The Binding of Isaac. The first is simple: install any mod. The second is manual: edit the game’s options.ini file and set EnableDebugConsole to 1.
If you’re using the second method, the file is usually located at C:\Users\%USER_NAME%\Documents\My Games\[Binding of Isaac Version You’re Playing]\options.ini. Open options.ini in a text editor, find the line that reads EnableDebugConsole=0, change it to EnableDebugConsole=1, then save the file.
After enabling the console (via a mod or the settings file), launch the game and begin a run. When you’re in, press the grave/tilde key (` / ~) to open the debug console. The key is commonly placed below Esc on most keyboard layouts.
All console commands in The Binding of Isaac
Once the console is open, you can enter commands to trigger a variety of effects. Many are intended for mod development and debugging, but several also function like cheat codes.
When you type a command and then press space, the console will show options for how that command can be modified. For instance, entering debug and pressing space reveals which specific debug effects are available.

Special seed codes in The Binding of Isaac
The Binding of Isaac also includes special seed codes that you enter before starting a run to apply unusual effects. Some seeds make runs easier, others make them much harsher, and some are purely visual.
These are especially useful for players who can’t access the debug console—since seeds work without needing any console input—while still letting you test chaos and variety in your runs.

How to spawn items, trinkets, cards, and pills
The most direct way to spawn items via the debug console is using the giveitem command. Open the console, type giveitem followed by the item name, and press enter to grant that collectible directly to your character.
Every item also has an ID, which means you can use giveitem with an ID instead of typing the item’s name. IDs can also be used with spawn to place items into the room rather than granting them immediately to your character.
Spawn command formats (by collectible type)
- Collectibles: spawn 5.100.[ITEMID without letter prefix]
- Trinkets: spawn 5.350.[ITEMID without letter prefix]
- Cards, Runes, Etc.: spawn 5.300.[ITEMID without letter prefix]
- Pills: spawn 5.70.[1-14]
If you want to take something back after giving it to yourself, type remove followed by the item name. You can also use remove * to remove one copy of every item currently on your character.
Useful cheat-style debug commands
Alongside giveitem, debug commands are among the easiest ways to activate cheats through the console. Even though many debug commands are meant for technical info, the following options can be used as cheat effects:
Taking damage does not reduce your health.
Your active item is always fully charged.
All enemies take constant damage.
To turn an enabled debug effect off, enter the same debug command again in the console.
