The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project Creator Halk Hogan Joins CD Projekt Red Remaster

One of the most prominent The Witcher 3 modding names is stepping fully into the official spotlight. Halk Hogan—creator behind the long-running “HD Reworked Project”—has confirmed he’s now working with CD Projekt Red on a remaster, bringing years of texture, model, and world-overhaul work into the game itself.

What started as a fan project has grown into one of the best-known mod efforts for The Witcher 3 over the years. Hogan’s “HD Reworked Project” has been active since 2015, and the remaster collaboration marks a major milestone: his work is being integrated directly into the upcoming official release.

In a confirmation posted on Nexus Mods on 26 August, Hogan said that for the remaster he has updated almost all major character types, monsters, and animals, along with vegetation. The scope also includes armor and gear for Geralt and “Plötze,” plus large portions of the game world. The emphasis, according to his description, is on improving the graphical quality of models and surfaces.

The current version of the mod is listed as 20.0, with the most recent update dated to early January 2025. On Nexus Mods, it’s categorized across areas including terrain and water, models, textures, vegetation, and visual effects—highlighting just how broad the overhaul has been. Hogan’s involvement is positioned as an official recognition of more than a decade of work.

Beyond graphics, additional changes are also planned for the remaster. Enemy combat is set to receive new behaviors and movement patterns, and Geralt’s character progression is expected to be reworked, including a newly designed skill system.

With the remaster scheduled for 29 September on PC and consoles, players who’ve leaned on enhanced visuals through modding may soon see parts of that effort become part of the base experience—at least according to Hogan’s stated integration of his “HD Reworked Project” into the new release.
