How to Earn the Lumber Backpack and Boost Woodcutting in RuneScape Dragonwilds
The Lumber Backpack is a special cape-style item in RuneScape: Dragonwilds that adds multiple bonuses tied to Woodcutting. With it equipped, you get more Woodcutting experience, extra wood yield per tree, reduced carrying weight for wood-based materials, and a higher chance for special drops when you chop.
If you’re looking to support your own progression, learning the Lumber Backpack’s recipe helps you both meet crafting needs and strengthen your overall status in RuneScape: Dragonwilds.
How to Unlock Lumber Backpack in RS Dragonwilds
You’ll unlock the Lumber Backpack recipe at Level 78 Woodcutting. Practically, that means you’ll need to raise your Woodcutting skill up to that level before you can make the item.
Once you hit that Level 78 requirement, the recipe becomes available automatically, letting you craft the Lumber Backpack whenever you want.
To level Woodcutting quickly in Dragonwilds, concentrate on Yew trees in the new Umbral Sands area. Each Yew tree is worth around 220 XP, and with Axtral Projection and Splinter, you can fell several trees in just a few seconds.
How to Craft Lumber Backpack in RS Dragonwilds
After the recipe unlocks, craft the Lumber Backpack at an Armor Bench under the Bag category.
- Dire Wolf Leather x3
- Padded Cloth x2
- Iron Logging Axe x1
- Ash Logs x3
Even though the Lumber Backpack is treated as a cape and occupies the cape slot when worn, its crafting recipe doesn’t show up alongside other capes. Instead, it lives in its own category named Bag, positioned just above the Capes section.
Dire Wolf Leather
- Dire Wolf Hide is dropped by Dire Wolves. You can find Dire Wolves in the Fractured Plains and Stormtouched Highlands regions.
Padded Cloth
Loom (Upgraded with Loom Harness)
- Rough Cloth x2
- Wool Cloth x2
- Rough Cloth: Start with Flax at a Spinning Wheel to produce Coarse Thread, then use that Coarse Thread at a Loom to create Rough Cloth.
- Wool Cloth: Use Soft Fleece at a Spinning Wheel to make Wool Thread, then take Wool Thread to a Loom to craft Wool Cloth.
Iron Logging Axe
- Iron Bar x6
- Oak Logs x4
- Wool Thread x2
- Iron Bar: Mine iron deposits in the Stormtouched Highlands or the Fellhollow regions to obtain Iron Ore. Then process Iron Ore at a Furnace to create Iron Bar.
- Oak Logs: Cut Oak trees in the starting regions to receive Oak Logs.
Ash Logs
Harvest Ash trees in the starting regions to obtain Ash Logs.
How Does the Lumber Backpack Work in Dragonwilds?
When equipped in the cape slot, the Lumber Backpack provides these effects:
- -10% Wood Weight Reduction
- +10% Woodcutting XP
- +10% Wood from Woodcutting
- +15% Special Item Drop Chance
- +2 Melee Defence
Most of the benefits are straightforward. Wood Weight Reduction means wood materials like logs and planks take up less weight once they’re in your inventory. The +10% Woodcutting XP bonus effectively boosts your gains—for example, if you’d normally earn 100 XP, equipping the Lumber Backpack raises that to 110 XP. Likewise, the +10% bonus to wood output increases your average yield from chopping (such as getting 11 logs instead of 10 on average).
The +15% Special Item Drop Chance increases the likelihood that tree byproducts drop when you cut. As an example, Ash trees have a 5/100 chance to drop an Ash Tree seed; with the Lumber Backpack equipped, that chance is increased by 15%.
