Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gets Earlier Release Date, Launching in September
Capcom has pulled forward the release schedule for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, shifting the action-adventure sequel to September 4 instead of September 25. The game is headed to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Release date moves up for Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the franchise’s first new entry in 20 years, following Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, which launched on PS2 in 2006. It also carries a long shadow of past reception—Dawn of Dreams earned an 8.8 out of 10 review score. With Way of the Sword, Capcom is stepping back into the series’ spotlight with a fresh release window on September 4.
Set in Kyoto during the early Edo period, Onimusha: Way of the Sword is positioned as a continuation of the series’ tone and momentum. Capcom also recently showed it off through hands-on play during Summer Game Fest, leaving a strong first impression.
Demo is live, and saves can unlock a charm
Capcom has made a playable demo available starting now for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. On PC, players can download it through both Steam and the Epic Games Store.
There’s also a small incentive tied to how you use the demo: if you play the demo and then keep the save data stored on your hard drive, purchasing the full game will reward you with a Kubi Akari charm.
Capcom’s 2026 momentum and what to track next
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is shaping up to be part of a broader push from Capcom in 2026. The publisher has already been drawing attention earlier this year with Resident Evil Requiem, which reportedly landed strong reviews and delivered big sales.
- New release date: September 4 (previously September 25)
- Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2
- Demo availability: now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store)
- Bonus for demo players: Kubi Akari charm, assuming demo save data is kept on your hard drive
