Wrex: Family Armor Acquisition

You can pick up this Assignment by stumbling into it, but the more natural route is to speak with Wrex. If you’ve recruited him, you can find him on the Normandy in the Cargo Bay to learn more about him and move the quest forward.

The process is split into three stages. The next stage unlocks when you either talk to Wrex again and then finish any Mission on a Mission World, or when you progress an Assignment on an Uncharted World—note that Uncharted World travel is required, and spacecraft trips don’t count.

By the time you reach the third part, you’ll learn why Wrex left his homeworld. After that, choose Investigate to ask about his Family, which leads directly into the Family Armor topic—at that point, you’ll pick up the Assignment.

Travel to Phoenix

  • Location: Argos Rho – Phoenix – Tuntau

The Wrex: Family Armor Assignment is tied to Argos Rho, which sits northwest of Attican Beta (the region where Feros is located). Your route is to travel to Phoenix from the northern side of the cluster, then scan the system for Discoveries.

Once you’re done with the system sweep, land on Tuntau—the third planet in that system.

Recommended squad

  • Squad tactics:
    • Even though Wrex is marked as optional, bringing him is strongly recommended. Beyond his combat value, having him with you unlocks special dialogue.
    • Kaidan is a solid option here. Along with his immobilizing biotic abilities, you’ll want Hard Decryption access so you can grab all the loot.
  • Shepard’s loadout:
    • This Assignment leans heavily on organic enemies, so Anti-Personnel / Shredder Rounds are recommended for the fight.

Find Wrex’s Armor

Yes, Tuntau has other items worth grabbing, but the target you care about is the Hidden Structure. It’s directly south of your starting point, so you don’t have to overthink the initial approach.

From where you spawn, head south toward the Hidden Structure with minimal detours. The Mako can handle the uneven ground and the hills between you and the location without much trouble.

Outside the structure you’ll encounter weak enemies acting as guards. They can’t really slow you down if you use the Mako’s weapons to clear them quickly (and if you’re playing the original game and want to avoid the Mako XP penalty, you can lean on your own weapons too).

After the area is clear, exit the Mako and go inside. This is where you reclaim Wrex’s armor.

Inside, expect real resistance. The base is packed with enemies, and you’ll need to eliminate them all to recover Wrex’s armor. The good news is that the first floor functions like a rough maze, giving you plenty of cover as you fight room to room.

There are also enemies on the second floor, but most of them will likely get pulled into the action as soon as the fight kicks off. There isn’t a lot of complicated technique here—stay healed, keep your shields up, and use immunity when you can to ride out the pressure.

Once the threat is gone, go to the second-floor balcony and enter the side room. In the middle of the shelves, you’ll find a Wall Safe that requires Easy Decryption. Break it open and you’ll get the armor.

With the armor secured, you can loot the rest of the structure. The remaining items are all located in the side rooms:

  • Second floor:
    • Technician Kit – On the shelves on the right-hand side of the room
    • Upgrade Kit – To the right of the Technician Kit
    • Wall Safe – Easy Decryption; in the middle of the shelves. This contains Wrex’s family armor!
    • Upgrade Kit – To the right of the Wall Safe
    • Medical Kit x2 – To the right of the Upgrade Kit
    • Wetware Kit – To the right of the Medical Kits
  • First floor:
    • Medical Kit – On a table in the back-left corner of the side-room
    • Hardened Crate – Hard Decryption; on the far right-hand side of the side-room
    • Crate – To the left of the Hardened Crate
    • Malfunctioning Object – To the right of the Hardened Crate, up against the wall

Back on the Normandy

Once you’re back aboard the ship, return to Wrex in the Cargo Bay for additional dialogue. If you didn’t bring him to get his Family Armor from Tuntau, you’ll need to select “Found your armor” to finish the Assignment.

Either way, you should also choose “Personal inquiry,” then “Mercenary” under Investigate to learn more about Wrex.
