Travel to Hercules
- Location: Attican Beta – Hercules – Eletania
You can begin this Assignment as soon as you take command of the SSV Normandy SR-1 after finishing Citadel: Expose Saren. Once you’re able, travel to Attican Beta—use the system marked with the Feros label—then continue to the Hercules system at the southern end of the nebula.
When you arrive, Admiral Hackett will contact you. He’ll tell you that a surveillance drone was recently destroyed over Eletania, and that you need to recover it before the Geth get to the information first.
Before heading out, check the system for the Discoveries you can collect. For this Assignment, consider the following loadout and squad setup:
Recommended Loadout
- Squad Tactics:
- Tali’s tech skills are useful here because you’ll be fighting synthetics.
- Wrex is a solid pick for close-range combat, and he’s comfortable using Shotguns.
- Shepard’s Loadout:
- Since synthetic enemies are the focus, bring Armor Piercing / Tungsten Rounds and consider Combat Sensor / Scanner upgrades.
- Tali’s tech abilities will come in handy for this Assignment, as you’ll be fighting synthetics.
- Wrex is a good idea as you’ll be fighting in close-quarters and he’s proficient with Shotguns.
- You’ll be facing mainly synthetic enemies in this Assignment, so Armor Piercing / Tungsten Rounds and Combat Sensor / Scanner upgrades are recommended.
Track the Data Module
When you land, place a marker on the spot just north-east of the starting area—the place where the “5” appears on the map. It’s labeled “Downed Recon Probe,” and the approach is straightforward.
Once you get there, you’ll discover the surveillance drone’s data module has been taken by a local “space monkey,” referred to as Pyjaks in later entries. Your job becomes finding the Pyjak that has the module. Check your map afterward: you should see four Monkey Colonies marked. On the map shown here, they’re marked with symbols labeled “1” and “2.”
The good news is that tracking the right Pyjak is consistent. The Data Module carrier will always be in the same approximate location: the northern-most Monkey Colony marked with a “2.” This colony is called the “Monkey Mineshaft,” and it leads directly into a Mining Tunnel.
Drive up to the Monkey Mineshaft, park the Mako, then go inside.
You’ll encounter multiple Pyjaks in the mineshaft, but only one will be carrying the Data Module. While you’re here, you can also pick up loot from multiple containers:
- Medical Kit – In the opening room, on the right at the foot of a box.
- Locked Crate – Easy Decryption. On the South wall of the opening room, next to a box.
- Locked Crate – Easy Decryption. On the right-hand side of the central chamber, next to a large, flat, low rock.
- Crate – In the North-West section of the central chamber, behind the large boxes.
- Crate – In the Northern side room, at the back of the room.
- Secure Crate – Average Decryption. In the back-left of the Eastern side room, behind a large box.
Now, for the Data Module itself: the Pyjak with the module is always the same one. Go to the back of the Eastern Side Room, and you’ll find it moving near a light stand.
At this stage, you can use a Paragon Morality exploit. After you obtain the Data Module from the Pyjak, make a Save and then reload that save. When you do, you’ll earn +6 Paragon Points every time you interact with the Pyjak!
This can be a strong approach for Renegades trying to fill out the Paragon meter so they can later attempt the UNC: Besieged Base Assignment, which becomes available only when your Paragon bar is nearly full.
Be careful, though—after you locate the Data Module, you’ll be attacked by Geth in the main chamber. They show up in fairly large numbers, so expect a serious fight. As usual, use cover and abilities as needed, but the most efficient method is to keep your fire focused on one target at a time, then move on to the next.
After you defeat all the Geth, climb back outside, return to the Mako, and then either keep exploring Eletania or head back to the Normandy.
Prothean Ruins
While you’re in the area, the Anomaly in the South-West is worth checking out—if, and only if, you have the trinket earned from the UNC: Asari Consort Assignment. The trinket is obtained by completing UNC: Xeltan’s Complaint first, and then doing Asari Consort.
Go to the marker in the South-West portion of the area (marked with a “7” on the map) and interact with it. After you crack it, interact with it again to learn more Prothean backstory.
