2026’s Must-Have 4K Blu-ray Releases Are Driving a Collector Comeback

Even as streaming keeps expanding, physical media is quietly making a comeback—and 4K Blu-ray is a big part of that shift. A recent sales report points to 2025 being the first year in a while where the 4K Blu-ray category actually grew. For collectors, that means there’s renewed mainstream interest in the idea of owning your movies and shows outright, not just renting access through a subscription.

Checklists

Although streaming services are more popular than ever, physical media has been steadily returning. A current sales report highlights that the 4K Blu-ray segment grew in 2025 for the first time in years. The appeal of truly owning your movies and series is becoming more common again, and if you collect, it’s arguably one of the better moments to start (or expand) your shelf.

All New 4K Movies Released So Far

There’s been a near-constant flow of 4K Blu-ray announcements throughout this year, with more still on the way. If you want a running list of major releases that have already hit, here’s an updated month-by-month breakdown so far.

  • January
  • February
  • March
  • April
  • May
  • June

New 4K Blu-rays for January

January brought releases aimed at big 2025 movie attention, plus a few additions to the Criterion collection. One Battle After Another is now officially recognized as the top film of 2025 at the Oscars, and it also received a perfect 10 out of 10 score in a review. The month also included Wicked: For Good, along with a two-film Wicked collection release.

New 4K Blu-rays for February

February focused heavily on 4K re-releases of older titles. One of the most preordered Blu-rays of 2025 was Small Soldiers, a film that originally debuted back in 1998. The month also added new releases—most notably Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 and Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, both finally becoming available physically.

New 4K Blu-rays for March

March had plenty of high-profile releases. Zootopia 2 arrived in 4K as a Steelbook, after selling out during preorders. You also got physical releases for Running Man and The Housemaid, both described as popular films from last year. The only Criterion Collection addition in March was Killer’s of the Flower Moon.

New 4K Blu-rays for April

April included a major Criterion Collection release with the Monty Python classic Life of Brian. It also saw several new physical releases, including 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, and Send Help.

New 4K Blu-rays for May

May stood out for 4K Steelbook editions of newer streaming series. First up was It: Wellcome to Derry, described as one of the best horror additions in years. Fallout Season 2 also received a release this month, arriving only a month after the season finale aired.

New 4K Blu-rays for June

June was comparatively quiet for new movies and shows landing in 4K, but it still had two notable highlights. The first was Hoppers, which received a 4K Steelbook that kept cycling in and out of stock during the preorder period. The release is also called out as the most successful original Pixar movie in quite some time. The other major item was the 4K release of the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, meaning viewers no longer need an HBO Max subscription to watch it.

Upcoming 4K Releases

If you’re looking for what’s coming next in the 4K Blu-ray lineup, you can check a guide to the biggest upcoming releases.

For July, the most notable new item is the The Stranger Thing collection, which has been extremely popular as a preorder following the series finale earlier this year. Obsession is also set for a 4K release on July 14, after becoming one of the most successful indie horror movies of all time. Looking further into summer, Project Hail Mary is scheduled to receive a 4K and Blu-ray release on August 11. There’s also a Steelbook available for preorder, but it won’t arrive until October.

It was also announced that KPop Demon Hunters is coming to the Criterion collection after its Oscar wins earlier this year, though a release date still hasn’t been confirmed.
