The Other Brother Quest Guide: Find Vance and Uncover the Map Plot in Black Flag

The Other Brother is a Templar Hunt quest in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag (Resynced). It’s the second mission for Upton Travers in Nassau, tasking you with tracking Vance down and uncovering the conspiracy behind his attempt to steal a treasure map.

The Other Brother

The story continues with The Other Brother, now told from Upton Travers’s perspective instead of his brother Vance. To begin the investigation, meet Upton west of his hideout.

As you follow Upton, he explains what’s going on with the treasure map. The map is split into two halves—each brother holds one—and Vance is suspected of trying to take both pieces for the Templars.

To confirm what the brothers are planning, crouch in the bushes with white flowers and eavesdrop on their conversation. When they start talking, press the Triangle button to listen.

Once the conversation ends, follow Upton to Vance’s house. The location is protected by a squad of four Templars who are working for Jing Lang, Vance’s Templar partner.

Take out the two guards on the path first with a double assassination from the bushes, then clear the remaining two guards at the front entrance. Keep in mind that brutes will shrug off your attacks unless you break their guard—use a pistol shot to do it.

After the house is secured, search the northern side for a note. It’s on a table underneath an awning and reveals the location of the upcoming meeting between Vance and Jing Lang.

Go to the meeting area near the local tavern and eavesdrop on their conversation. You’ll need to listen from a particular spot underneath the small wooden staircase.

The conversation makes it clear that Vance has already sent assassins after his brother. Immediately head south to defend Upton before he gets hurt. You can start the fight with an easy assassination from the nearby rooftops, but after that, you’ll have to finish the rest face to face.
