Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis Service Ends October 6, Square Enix Confirms
Square Enix has officially announced that Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis will permanently end service this October, closing the curtain on the free-to-play Final Fantasy title after about three years. Even though there are still several months left to play through its current story beats and live events, the clock to the game’s shutdown is now officially running.
Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis first launched on mobile in September 2023, and later made its way to Steam toward the end of that same year. Positioned as both a retelling and an expansion of the wider Final Fantasy 7 setting, the project revisited multiple parts of the Compilation. That includes Crisis Core, Before Crisis, Advent Children, and Dirge of Cerberus. It also added an original chapter, The First Soldier, which focuses on a brand-new narrative about Sephiroth’s background, set years before the events of the original game. Because of that blend of retelling and new content, the mobile RPG quickly became one of Square Enix’s most ambitious releases in its lineup.
Separately, during an interview with GameRant, Final Fantasy 7 remake director Naoki Hamaguchi discussed details related to Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.
Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis is Shutting Down
Square Enix’s latest confirmation sets the end of service for Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis on October 6 at 11:00 PM PT, with October 7 at 2:00 AM ET applying in other regions. The publisher says it reached this decision after concluding that it would be hard to keep delivering the standard of support and service players have come to expect. Along with the shutdown announcement, Square Enix also stopped the sale of the game’s premium Red Crystals right away. However, any currency players already own will remain usable until the servers go dark.
- Service ends: October 6 at 11:00 PM PT / October 7 at 2:00 AM ET
- Red Crystal sales have already been discontinued.
- Any existing Red Crystals will still work until shutdown.
- New events and updates will keep rolling out during the final months.

There’s still a reason for current players to remain engaged through the end date. Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis will continue receiving new in-game events and updates all the way through the final stretch of service, giving fans one last window to see remaining content. After the game shuts down, though, account details will eventually be removed as part of the closure process, meaning the title will become completely inaccessible.
Square Enix has already made other shutdown announcements earlier this year, though those cases are more controversial because of what exactly is being removed. The publisher confirmed it would end the Nintendo Switch Cloud Versions of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, Kingdom Hearts 3 + ReMind, and the Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece, with all four becoming permanently unplayable on June 9, 2027. Unlike typical service shutdowns, these were primarily single-player releases that players purchased outright—so the decision drew criticism. The stated reason is that the cloud releases are being replaced by native Switch versions, and Square Enix is offering native Switch replacements at a discount for existing owners. Still, it represents yet another segment of Square Enix’s catalog moving toward an eventual permanent end.

For now, players still have time to revisit Cloud’s story, dig into The First Soldier and its expanded look at Sephiroth’s past, finish up any remaining events, and spend any premium currency they still have before the servers disappear for good. After October 6, Final Fantasy 7 will close another chapter in its ongoing franchise history, but there is still something on the horizon: Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is slated to release in Spring 2027.
