Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Reveals a Shocking Return for a Dead Villain
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Dexter: Resurrection Season 1.
Dexter: Resurrection is gearing up for Season 2, and it will be bringing back a familiar enemy—one that has fans reacting, especially after how Season 1 ended for her.
In the first season of Dexter: Resurrection, the title character didn’t just hunt targets in the open—he inserted himself into a hidden society made up of other violent killers. Every member was hosted by Leon Prater, a wealthy true-crime enthusiast who acted as the group’s gatekeeper. Dexter methodically eliminated them one by one, but two key figures weren’t killed by Dexter himself.
One of those survivors is Al, a seemingly wholesome family man who still has a darker side. Near the end of Season 1, Al managed to escape and return to the Midwest. The other is Mia, portrayed by Krysten Ritter, who is set to return for Season 2.
Mia’s Season 1 fate—and why her return is a big deal
Dexter initially thought he could build a Bonnie-and-Clyde-style partnership with Mia, teaming up to take down people he considered evil. That plan didn’t last. Dexter quickly learned that Mia didn’t follow his rules or his code.
Things escalated when Dexter framed Mia for the killing of a man who had actually been murdered by Harrison. After that, Dexter sent Mia to prison. While she was incarcerated, Leon Prater’s bodyguard, Charley, bribed a guard to kill Mia in a way that looked like a suicide.
Given all of that, it’s surprising—though not entirely impossible—that Krysten Ritter is now returning for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2.
What we know about Krysten Ritter’s Season 2 role
A report says Ritter will be back, but it doesn’t confirm which character she will play. It would be a reasonable guess that she returns as Mia, especially since Season 1 already leaned into a major twist involving a killer with a hidden connection to a twin. Even so, the new casting information leaves room for other outcomes.
Some viewers had previously suspected that Charley didn’t actually kill Mia for real. Under that theory, the staged “suicide” would have been a cover meant to set up a prison break rather than a permanent end. It’s still unclear whether Season 2 will follow that direction.
More likely explanations: flashbacks or Dexter’s “ghost” conversations
If Mia’s return isn’t a straight resurrection, the most plausible setup is that she appears through flashbacks—or as one of the many ghosts that haunt Dexter. The series often shows Dexter talking with deceased friends and enemies as part of his internal struggle, treating those conversations like an extension of his own conscience.
Whether Mia made enough of an impact to justify showing up in that way remains to be seen. However, Uma Thurman is expected to return as Charley this season, so Mia’s reappearance could be tied to Thurman’s storyline in some form.
Season 2 cast expansions: New serial killers and likely targets
Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 is expected to be a large shake-up in the hunt-for-killers department. Brian Cox will play the New York Ripper, described as an elderly serial killer who torments the families of his victims.
Dan Stevens will join the lineup as the Five Borough Killer. The season will also feature Kane Hodder and Chris Jericho, with both actors expected to portray victims of Dexter.
