Chiikawa the Movie Dominates Japan Box Office for a Fifth Straight Weekend
Japan’s theatrical box office has been dominated once again by Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island, which is holding the top spot for a fifth straight weekend. The animated feature added another 1.2 billion yen (6.6 million euros) to its haul, pushing its running total to more than 11 billion yen (59.5 million euros).
Chiikawa keeps the lead into its fifth weekend
The Nagano manga adaptation continues to show strong staying power, remaining first place through its fifth weekend. With the latest weekend take, the film’s overall earnings now sit above 11 billion yen (59.5 million euros).
Shin-chan climbs back into the top five
Crayon Shin-chan The Movie Super Strange! My Yōkai Monster Vacation, the 34th installment in the long-running Crayon Shin-chan franchise, has risen one position, moving from sixth to fifth. After four weekends in theaters, it has accumulated more than 2.2 billion yen (12.2 million euros).
A sequel continues its upward move
Ano Hoshi ga Furu Oka de, Kimi to Mata Deaitai takes third weekend momentum with a sixth-place finish this week—also up one spot compared to the previous week. As a sequel to Ano Hana ga Saku Oka de, Kimi to mata Deaetara, the film’s total now stands at roughly 1.5 billion yen (8.2 million euros).
Kingdom 5 slips again, Blue Lock continues to drop
Kingdom 5: Tamashii no Kessen, the fifth live-action Kingdom movie based on Yasuhisa Hara’s manga, fell from fifth to seventh in its sixth weekend. Its current total is over 6.1 billion yen (32.9 million euros).
Elsewhere in the ranking, Blue Lock—the live-action adaptation of the manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura—dropped to ninth place in its third weekend. So far, it has earned about 968 million yen (5.2 million euros).
