Crimson Desert Update 2.00.00 Overhauls Story, Progression, and QoL

Pearl Abyss has rolled out a major post-launch update for Crimson Desert, and this one is aimed at more than just technical housekeeping. Update 2.00.00—promoted during gamescom’s Opening Night Live—takes direct aim at how the game tells its story, refreshes character progression, and adds a wide sweep of quality-of-life changes across missions, combat, UI, and presentation.

Story overhaul: more scenes, stronger boss narration

The update’s biggest headline is a rework to the plot and the way it’s delivered. After launch, some players criticized the narrative as the game’s weakest area, and the new patch is intended to address at least part of that concern.

  • Developers revised the flow of the main story and related quests by adding new cutscenes, dialogue, conversations, and memory-style fragments.
  • More emphasis was placed on boss-related narration.
  • Changes can be seen early in the adventure: during Kliff’s first trip to the Abyss, the character now reflects on his past and his relationships with the other Greywights.
  • Later on, Kliff more often comments on events as they happen rather than only listening and completing assigned tasks.

Because Crimson Desert’s campaign is described as lasting dozens to hundreds of hours, the full impact of these narrative edits may take time to judge—but the scope of the intervention highlights the level of ongoing support the game is receiving.

A new progression system: Abyss Link, resets, and Kliff’s new abilities

Alongside the story work, Update 2.00.00 introduces a redesigned skill development system as part of Crimson Desert Enhanced.

  • A new resource called Abyss Link was added.
  • When one playable character learns skills using Abyss Artifacts, the remaining playable characters receive the corresponding amount of Abyss Links that they can invest in their own progression.
  • Progress can now be reset separately for each character.
  • On the first launch after updating, previous progression will be reset and all previously spent resources returned.

Kliff also receives additional content within the system changes:

  • Kliff gets 8 new skills that unlock as players progress through the main story.
  • After completing all main quests, players can start a new game while carrying Abyss Links and other currencies forward from their existing save.

Combat and content changes: phased Golden Star, mounts controls, and new languages

Beyond story and progression, the patch includes numerous smaller updates that touch both gameplay and presentation.

  • The main quest interface was improved.
  • Damage taken by companions was reduced.
  • The fight against the Golden Star was redesigned and split into separate phases, each with its own set of attacks.
  • Players can now choose how flying mounts are controlled.
  • Adjustments span quests, combat, animations, equipment, terrain, and user interface.
  • Crimson Desert Enhanced adds 5 new dubbing languages: German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Brazilian Portuguese.
  • Arabic subtitles and interface text were also added.
