Black Ops 2 Zombies Buried Guide: Finish the Maxis-Side Victis Easter Egg

Black Ops 2 Zombies players looking to wrap up the Victis storyline in Buried finally have a clear path to the last Maxis-side steps. Mined Games is the concluding Victis easter egg tied to Richtofen, and if you’re aiming to help Maxis one more time with the Buried finale, here’s a full walkthrough of the Maxis route—plus practical tips to speed through the final Victis objective for Black Ops 2.

The Victis crew lands in the Black Ops 2 Zombies endgame through Buried, and this guide covers the Richtofen easter egg completion steps on the Maxis path.

Note that the easter egg is designed for four players. If you’re on PC using Plutonium, you can download BO2-Full-Solo-Mods to make it playable solo. The mod keeps the wisp from disappearing, removes the timer from the bell sequence, and lets the sharpshooter portion auto-complete.

Buried Maxis Side Easter Egg Steps Overview

  5. Obtain the Lantern
  6. Charge and Build the Lantern
  7. Solve the cipher puzzle
  8. Acquire the Time Bomb
  9. Melee the signs and follow the wisp (twice)
  10. Activate the lever in the Ghost Mansion
  11. Interact with all 9 Bells in the correct order
  12. Make a Wish
  13. Shoot the Targets

Step #1: Free Arthur

Start in Buried’s spawn area. Drop down from the stairs to reach the Old West town, then head through the mines. When you hit the street, the Sheriff’s House is on the left. Go inside and jump across into the Jailhouse, then drop through the floor to locate Arthur in his cell.

A key sits near the jail cell and lets you free Arthur, but he won’t move until you bring him Booze. You can find Booze behind him. Once you have it, you can use Arthur to break apart map sections blocked by debris by picking up Booze at the Saloon and handing it to him.

You can also switch on power from inside the Candy Store’s upstairs area.

Step #2: Build the Gallows

You’ll need four pieces to construct the Gallows—this buildable originates from the Courthouse and is required to begin the Maxis-side portion:

  • The Bulb is on the top floor of the Jailhouse, to the left of the Mystery Box.
  • The Antenna hangs behind a lantern in the Barn.
  • The Wire Spool is in the corner of the Gunsmith building.
  • The Battery is located behind the podium inside the Church.

Step #3: Build the Turbine & Subsurface Resonator

Next, build both machines. All required components are inside the General Store, and the most convenient workbenches are at the Saloon and the Sheriff’s House.

The Turbine

  • The Mannequin is in the back right corner of the back room on the ground floor.
  • The Fan is on the second floor; head to the right room and check a cabinet.
  • The Tail is on the ground floor on a shelf at the far left.

The Subsurface Resonator

  • The Wheel is on the front counter by the cash register.
  • The Speaker sits behind the front counter near a small painting in the back area.
  • The Mount is by the back door of the General Store, leaning against a wall.
  • The motor is on the top of the stairs in the right corner.

Step #4: Destroy the 4 Orbs with the Subsurface Resonator

There are four orbs around the map, and you must destroy them all. Only the Subsurface Resonator can destroy the orbs, and it must be powered by the Turbine—so you’ll need to place both machines at each orb location:

  • In the mineshafts
  • In the corner outside the Saloon
  • Between the Courthouse and the Church
  • At the back right of the mansion, after entering the hedge maze

Step #5: Grab and Charge the Lantern

A floating lantern will now appear in the town area. You must cook a grenade and throw it at the lantern so it drops to the floor, then pick it up.

Charging the lantern requires Arthur kills. You can feed Arthur Candy from the Candy Store so he can kill zombies. Arthur must kill 10 zombies total to charge the lantern and trigger a Maxis quote.

Step #6: Build the Lantern

Once the lantern is charged, you can find a chalk drawing of a lantern on the Gunsmith rooftop. Interact with the drawing to build it. Immediately after, a set of symbols will appear on the wall behind the lantern—those will matter in the next step. Before solving the cipher sequence, you need the Time Bomb.

Before you start the cipher portion, it’s important to grab the Time Bomb from the Mystery Box.

Step #7: Solve the Rosicrucian Cipher and Guide the Wisp

The wall symbols display three names, listed from top to bottom, in the Rosicrucian Cipher. The symbols map to names, and you match what you see in-game to the ones translated in the guide image. Each name corresponds to a wooden sign located in the mineshaft.

After you identify your three names (and locate the matching wooden signs), place the Time Bomb on one of those wooden signs. Then you need to use a Bowie Knife to melee the three correct signs to spawn a wisp. The wisp won’t stay unless it travels through zombies, so you must guide it back to the Gallows before it fades.

When the wisp returns to the Gallows, activate the Time Bomb and repeat the process so you end up with two wisps at the Gallows.

Step #8: Interact with the Lever in the Ghost House

With both wisps now sitting in the Gallows bulbs, head to the Ghost Mansion. Take the stairs on the left and move through the bookshelf until you reach a bedroom. To the left of the bed is a light board, which prompts you to interact with a lever. Doing so triggers a sequence of lights—remember the order from 1 (top left) to 9 (bottom right).

If you’re not using the solo mod, one player should remain in the Ghost Mansion and call out each light bulb as it appears. There’s also a timer here, so move quickly.

Step #9: Solve the Bell Puzzle

Candy Store (on a table on the top floor by the collapsed wall)

Barn (by a hay bale to the left on the top floor)

Courtroom (on a bench to the left after entering)

Candy Store (on a table by pots and a shelf on the top floor)

Barn (on top of a hay bale by a wooden board and bucket on the top floor)

Courtroom (on the witness stand)

Candy Store (on a stool by the heater on the top floor)

Barn (on a hay bale when facing the Jailhouse on the top floor)

Courtroom (at the lawyer’s table)

Now use the light-board sequence you recorded. Each light matches a bell located at a specific spot, and you must interact with the bells in the same order shown on your board.

Step #10: Make a Wish and Shoot the Targets

In the town center, in front of the Ghost Mansion, there’s a well. You need to interact with the well to “make a wish”, which spawns targets across several locations. Assign each player a location, and each player must shoot their targets as soon as they appear. Missing a target will fail the step, though you can repeat it.

  • In the windows of the Ghost Mansion
  • Around the Jailhouse and Sheriff’s House
  • Inside the Saloon
  • Around the Candy Store and outside the General Store

Once every target is hit, you’ll receive a quote from Maxis and all Perks. Check the map from the lobby afterward to see the Buried icon glow orange.

This step is easier when you’re down to one zombie. You can grab a crawler, then give Arthur Candy so he holds the crawler for you.
