Black Ops 2 Zombies Buried Walkthrough for Richtofen’s Easter Egg Steps

Mined Games is the last Black Ops 2 Zombies easter egg achievement tied to the Victis storyline, and if you’re trying to keep Richtofen’s larger plan moving, this walkthrough is built for that. It lays out the step-by-step Buried easter egg for Richtofen’s path, guiding you through the undead’s Old West town while you help one of Aether’s most untrustworthy masterminds—Richtofen.

Buried is the capstone for the Maxis-side easter eggs in Black Ops 2 Zombies, and completing Richtofen’s version will earn you the Mined Games achievement.

This easter egg is designed for four players, unless you’re on PC and using Plutonium. With that setup, you can download BO2-Full-Solo-Mods, which changes two key parts: the maze section will display the correct lever sequence after you press everything at least once, and the sharpshooter objective becomes a simple matter of shooting 19 targets.

As with earlier Richtofen easter eggs, you’ll want to play as Samuel J. Stuhlinger, since he’s the only character who can hear Richtofen’s spoken lines during the process.

Buried Richtofen Side Easter Egg Steps Overview

  1. Free Arthur
  2. Build the Guillotine
  3. Use the Paralyzer to charge 4 Orbs.
  4. Obtain the Lantern.
  5. Kill 10 Ghost Girls to charge the Lantern.
  6. Solve the cipher puzzle.
  7. Acquire Vulture Aid and use a Bowie Knife to melee the signs.
  8. Follow the wisp to the Guillotine and kill 5 charged zombies.
  9. Use a Time Bomb to reach Round Infinity and find the Switch.
  10. Pull the four levers in the hedge maze.
  11. Make a Wish.
  12. Shoot the Targets.

Step #1: Free Arthur

Right after you drop through the slide and enter the Old West area, go up the stairs to the Sheriff’s House. From there, jump across to the Jailhouse, then drop down through the floor to locate Arthur trapped inside his cell.

To free him, take the key outside the cell, then use the Booze on the bedside table so Arthur powers through the debris. You can then find Booze at the Saloon, which Arthur can use to unlock other portions of the map that were previously unreachable.

Don’t forget to switch on Power—it’s located upstairs in the Candy Store.

Step #2: Build the Guillotine

The Guillotine is required to start Richtofen’s side of the Buried easter egg, and it’s built from four separate components. Each part can be constructed to the left of the Saloon along the wall near the Gunsmith:

  • The Crystal Shard is found on the back-right wall of the mineshafts.
  • The Antenna sits on the lower floor of the barn, tucked behind a hanging lantern.
  • The Wire Spool is inside the Gunsmith’s building, in a corner on the left room once you enter.
  • The Dish is located by the balcony of the Saloon on the top floor.

Step #3: Acquire the Paralyzer and Charge the Four Orbs

You must obtain the Paralyzer, which is the Wonder Weapon pulled from the Mystery Box. After you spin for it, you’ll need to fire the Paralyzer at four specific red crystal balls placed around the map. The locations are:

  • In the mineshafts.
  • In the left area outside the Saloon, to the right of the Candy Store.
  • To the left of the Church entrance.
  • Outside the Ghost Mansion: when you enter the hedge maze, turn immediately left to find the exit.

Step #4: Grab and Charge the Lantern

Once all four orbs are charged, a floating blue Lantern will appear somewhere in the underground town. You can make the Lantern drop by cooking a grenade and throwing it after about 3.5 seconds, then simply pick it up.

After obtaining the Lantern, you need to get 10 Ghost kills. The easiest way is to spend time inside the Ghost Mansion—just be careful not to take hits, because

Step #5: Acquire Vulture Aid and Build the Lantern

At this stage, Vulture Aid is required. You can purchase it from inside the Church, positioned to the left of the Ghost Mansion. With Vulture Aid active, go up to the rooftop of the Gunsmith to locate the Lantern chalk outline and interact with it.

Interacting with the outline will place three distinct sentences on the wall. You can decode them through the Rosicrucian Cipher, though the guide translates them for you so you’ll know the three names involved and what to do with that information on the next step.

Step #6: Solve the Rosicrucian Cipher and Chase the Wisp

The wall symbols, listed from top to bottom, correspond to wooden signs hidden in the mineshafts. Use the reference image to map each symbol to the three names you need, then enter the mineshafts and melee the matching signs—but only using a Bowie Knife or Galvaknuckles.

When you strike the third correct sign, a wisp will spawn. Now you must use Vulture Aid to track down the wisp and run into it before it vanishes, so keep moving quickly. The wisp will teleport repeatedly until it finally lands on the Guillotine you built earlier—run into it one last time.

Step #7: Charge the Wisp and Acquire the Time Bomb

After the wisp merges with the Guillotine, it releases into a zombie. That zombie becomes charged by the wisp and must be eliminated. You need to repeat this process until you’ve killed 5 wisp-charged zombies.

Once you reach five, head to the Mystery Box and obtain the Time Bomb.

Step #8: Time Travel to Round Infinity and Find the Switch

Throw the Time Bomb onto the Guillotine, activate it, and you’ll be temporarily transported to Round Infinity. Your objective is to locate the bodies of the Victis crew and interact with them until you uncover the Switch item. Don’t bother fighting zombies here since they have infinite health.

After you find the Switch, interact with the Guillotine to attach it, which will start the next phase.

The bodies are scattered across the map, but they never appear beyond the Ghost Mansion. Check areas near the Guillotine, the Gunsmith, the Barn, and around the Church.

Step #9: Activate the Four Switches in the Hedge Maze in the Correct Order

Go through the Ghost Mansion to reach the hedge maze. Inside, on certain random doors, you’ll find four switches. Each switch is color-coded and can be Yellow, Red, Blue, or Green.

Your job is to flip a switch, and you’ll know it’s correct when it sparks. Expect to trial-and-error this step: if a switch you flip doesn’t spark, leave the maze and return to search for a different door for your first spark. Repeat the process until each of the remaining three switches sparks after activation.

If you can’t locate the door that holds your final switch, look at the walls in the center of the maze where the water fountain is located.

Step #10: Make a Wish and Shoot the Targets

The last task is to go to the town fountain and interact with it to “make a wish”. Doing so triggers a sharpshooter challenge, so make sure you have an Assault Rifle and Speed Cola. You may also want to set up a crawler and use Candy on Arthur so he holds the zombie in place.

After you make your wish, teleporting cardboard cutouts will appear and you’ll need to shoot them. Each player should take one of the following positions so everyone can cover the targets without missing any:

  • In the windows of the Ghost Mansion.
  • Around the Jailhouse and Sheriff’s House.
  • Inside the Saloon.
  • Around the Candy Store and outside the General Store.

When every target is destroyed, you won’t be able to make another wish at the fountain, and Richtofen will deliver a quote. You can also open the Buried icon in the lobby map, which should now be glowing blue.

Even though this is the Victis finale, there are other easter eggs to tackle in Black Ops 2 Zombies:

  • Tranzit Easter Egg (Richtofen)
  • Tranzit Easter Egg (Maxis)
  • Die Rise (Maxis)
  • Die Rise (Richtofen)
  • Buried (Maxis)
  • Mob of the Dead Easter Egg
  • Origins Easter Egg
