AC Black Flag Resynced: How to Find Blackbeard’s Treasure Map in Sequence 8

In Sequence 8 of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, Blackbeard’s Treasure Map is one of the rewards you’ll track down—and it behaves a little differently from most of the game’s other treasure leads. Instead of listing coordinates on the parchment itself, the sketch gives you enough visual clues to figure out the destination. If you’re looking for the right spot, head just north of Kingston to Anotto Bay, located at coordinates 590, 244.

Once you reach the bay, you’ll have to clear out a group of pirate ships before you can freely investigate the Smuggler’s Den where Edward Thatch stashed his loot. The area is mostly simple to navigate, but the underwater tunnels add a bit of complication with their twists and bends. Still, locating the exact place where Blackbeard’s treasure ends up can be surprisingly easy to miss if you don’t know what to look for.

Release/Platform Notes: Availability of This Content

The instructions in this guide are specifically for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and the steps within Sequence 8 and its related Smuggler’s Den content. The treasure route described here is tied to the Anotto Bay location at coordinates 590, 244 and the quest flow for Blackbeard’s Treasure.

Where to find Blackbeard’s Treasure in Black Flag Resynced

After you arrive at Anotto Bay and clear the pirates gathered there, dive into the water and search for an underwater passage that leads toward the island. The entry sits fairly deep and is positioned away from the rocky cliffs at first, but the trail of bioluminescent jellyfish should guide you straight to the opening.

Inside, work through the tunnels until you locate several chests. Be prepared to dodge sharks as you go. These chests are linked to the Smuggler’s Den itself rather than directly to Blackbeard’s Treasure Map, but grabbing them is still worth your time. If you aren’t using unlimited oxygen, keep an eye out for air pockets and use them when needed so you don’t get forced out of the route.

If the cave layout is throwing you off, activate eagle vision to bring chests, secrets, and mission objectives into clearer view. The quest markers for objectives appear as glowing green dots, which can help you confirm which direction you should be moving.

Eventually, the tunnel network will bring you back to dry land—at least briefly. Then, head back underwater from the opposite end and continue through the next set of passages until you reach a larger chamber filled with enemies. Eliminate everyone in the room, then check the far side for a collapsed tunnel. There’s a locked chest in the opposite corner, but you’ll need to leave it alone for now since it can’t be opened immediately.

Instead, find a small keg of gunpowder near the blocked passageway and carry it over to the doorway. Shoot it to trigger a large explosion that clears the rubble and opens the way forward. As you keep pushing through, you’ll reach another open space with more pirates and Blackbeard’s former first mate, Israel Hands. Defeat them all, then look for a second blocked passageway located at the top of a stone slope—matching the one depicted on the map.

Blow it open using the nearby gunpowder keg (use the smaller one, not the larger keg), then step inside to trigger a cutscene. When it ends, return to Great Inagua and interact with the chest there for another cutscene, which rewards you with the Blackbeard’s Portrait key item. It wraps up Edward Thatch’s story nicely, though the prize is a bit underwhelming given the effort required.

How to Open the Locked Chest in Blackbeard’s Treasure (Need Key)

On your way to Blackbeard’s treasure, you’ll encounter a large chest marked with the text “Need Key.” If you’ve played the original version or you’ve already completed any of the other Smuggler’s Dens in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, you’ll recognize what’s going on: this chest is connected to the Anotto Bay Smuggler’s Den rather than the Blackbeard’s Treasure side objective. That means you can’t open it right away.

To get access, return to Anotto Bay after finishing Blackbeard’s Treasure. When you’re back, one of the pirates you encounter will have the key on them. Kill that pirate, loot the key, and then open the chest to receive 4,962 Reales plus a Weather Map Piece. That Weather Map Piece can be combined with five other pieces to assemble the Weathered Map.
