The Forts Mission Walkthrough: How to Crack Defenses in AC IV Remastered

The Forts is the nineteenth mission in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Remastered and the first entry in Sequence Five. In this memory, Kenway returns to Nassau and reconnects with familiar faces. After hearing that gold is being gathered from a nearby Fort, he decides to learn how their defenses are dismantled. This guide walks you through every objective you need to complete the memory sequence, from starting the job to unlocking the Fleet plans afterward.

As he hears about gold being collected from a Fort, he decides to learn how to break down their defenses. This walkthrough will take you through all the objectives needed to complete this memory sequence.

How to Start The Forts

First, travel back to Nassau and head to The Old Avery Tavern. Sit down at the table, and soon two pirates will approach Kenway. Thatch arrives shortly after, and the trio talk about the nearby Forts—plus the fact that Torres is about to show up to collect a large gold shipment.

Once the discussion ends, make your way back to the Jackdaw. Your next task is to sail south to Fort Punta Guarico. The location is given at map coordinates 745,379.

If you haven’t tackled a Fort yet, here are the key things to expect:

  • Approaching the Fort means you’ll be met by a swarm of ships.
  • You’ll also face two defense towers that fire mortar at you.
  • Focus on destroying the boats first; you can then use them to restore the Jackdaw’s health if you need recovery.
  • Watch for orange rings that appear in the water while fighting the fleet. These indicate where mortar shells will land.
  • Use speed boosts to escape from those orange-ring impact zones.
  • Prioritize the defense towers, then follow up quickly with Swivel Gun shots.
  • After you take out the first defense tower, the second one becomes more aggressive.
  • Eliminating the fleet before turning fully to the towers lets you go all-in with your full arsenal and break the defenses down faster.

Storm the Fort

With the towers destroyed and the fleet sunk, you can dock and move into the Fort itself. This section doesn’t give you stealth options—your crew storms alongside you—so the goal shifts to reducing the Fort’s morale.

  1. Kill the soldiers.
  2. Destroy the gunpowder stockpiles by igniting the red barrels and blowing up the boxes that contain the reserves.

After you’ve lowered morale enough, you’re ready to force entry through the War Room door at the top of the Fort. Move up to it, and Edward will reunite with Torres.

Finish your conversation with Torres, then go into the Jackdaw’s cabin. Use the zipline on the south side to drop down quickly and return to the ship. Once you enter the cabin, Kenway’s Fleet will be unlocked.

Open the Fleet plans by interacting with the map. The southeast section becomes available, letting you assign ships to handle quests on your behalf. While you’re here, you can also adjust your setup: interact with the mannequin to change your outfit, use the model ship to customize the Jackdaw, and enter the Animus to view Anomalies.

When you’re prepared to keep exploring, exit the ship.
