Norma Best Build Guide: Stun Synergies and W-Engine Picks in ZZZ

In Zenless Zone Zero, Norma is a Stun-focused agent who tends to shine most when she’s paired with Attack characters—especially units like Pyrois and Hugo. For her setup, her most straightforward path is to lean into her on-field uptime and her combat utility using the Chief Sidekick W-Engine alongside the King of the Summit drive set, so she can contribute more consistently during fights.

It’s also worth noting how the game’s banner structure works: each featured banner includes one S-Rank (five-star) character and two rate-up A-Rank (four-star) characters.

Norma Best W-Engines

Chief Sidekick

With Chief Sidekick equipped, the wearer’s Impact rises by 30, and their damage ignores 15% of the target’s Fire resistance. If the wearer isn’t the active character, their Energy regeneration increases by 0.4 per second. When the wearer deals Fire damage through an EX Special Attack, it boosts all Agents’ damage by 12.5% for 30 seconds, stacking up to two times. Triggering repeatedly refreshes the duration, and the effect can fire once per skill. Only one copy of this effect can exist in the same squad.

Chief Sidekick is Norma’s signature W-Engine, and it stands out as her best option by a wide margin. If you don’t run it, Norma drops a major portion of her damage output, and it becomes difficult to replace it with another W-Engine that can supply both the passive utility and the Crit Rate substat at the same time.

When Norma is built around Chief Sidekick, she gains the ability to partially bypass enemy Fire resistance, receive extra passive Energy, and also buff her team’s damage. The result is more total damage, smoother rotation reliability, and greater team-fight usefulness. There isn’t another Stun-oriented W-Engine that gives Norma the same combination of benefits, which is why pulling for Norma also means aiming for this W-Engine.

Roaring Fur-nace

Roaring Fur-nace increases the Daze inflicted by the wearer’s EX Special Attack, Chain Attack, and Ultimate by 28%. When the wearer uses a Chain Attack or Ultimate to deal Fire damage, the damage dealt by all squad members increases by 10% for 30 seconds, stacking up to two times. Each stack’s duration is tracked separately, and it triggers once per skill use. Like the other similar passives, only one instance of this effect can exist in the same squad.

Despite its strengths, Roaring Fur-nace is only practical for Norma if you can reach 100% Crit Rate using her main stats plus substats. Once you hit that threshold, she can make full use of the W-Engine’s benefits.

Yesterday Calls

While off-field, Yesterday Calls increases the wearer’s Energy regeneration by 1.5 per second. If the wearer deals Physical damage with an EX Special Attack, the Daze from the wearer’s attacks increases by 9% for 10 seconds, stacking up to three times. At three stacks, all squad members gain an additional 30% Crit DMG for 40 seconds. Re-triggering resets the duration, and only one instance of the Crit DMG boost can be present in the same squad.

Norma, however, doesn’t deal Physical damage, so she can’t trigger most of the W-Engine’s passive conditions. Still, she can take advantage of its Crit Rate substat plus the off-field Energy regeneration. That combination is usually enough to help her reach 100% Crit Rate while also improving her team’s performance, letting her get her Ultimate out every rotation.

Hellfire Gears

Hellfire Gears increases the wearer’s off-field Energy regeneration by 0.6 per second. When the wearer uses an EX Special Attack, their Impact increases by 10% for 10 seconds, stacking up to two times; each stack’s duration is calculated separately.

This W-Engine is a solid free-to-play route for Norma in ZZZ. It runs into the same issue as Roaring Fur-nace—if you can’t hit 100% Crit Rate, you’ll need to substitute to a different W-Engine that provides Crit Rate, such as building her with Marcato Desire. You can also pivot to other W-Engine categories, including using an Attack W-Engine, as long as it still grants Crit Rate, even if it means giving up the W-Engine’s other passive features.

With Hellfire Gears specifically, Norma gets the off-field Energy regeneration she needs and also receives an Impact increase, which helps her stun enemies faster.

Norma Best Drive Discs

Using the King of the Summit drive set on Norma increases her Daze and also enables her to buff her team’s Crit DMG. Since her kit is built around stacking Crit Rate, she naturally satisfies the passive requirements needed to further amplify Crit DMG for the squad.

Because Norma’s entire build and kit demand as much Crit Rate as possible, it’s generally safe to run 2pc Woodpecker Electro to raise her Crit Rate. That said, once you’ve already achieved 100% Crit Rate, it’s usually more efficient to swap Woodpecker Electro for 2pc Swing Jazz or 2pc Moonlight Lullaby to improve Energy regeneration instead.

Norma Best Teams

As a Stun character, Norma can work with essentially any Attack unit that benefits from having a stunner in the rotation. Her partnership becomes even more valuable when Sunna is added: Sunna’s utility is high enough to push an Attack character’s damage further, turning Norma into a stronger buffer who performs especially well whenever she joins an Attack agent.

On the Norma side, she provides substantial support to Pyrois, with a special emphasis on their Chain Attacks. She also spends very little time on the field when stunning enemies, which gives Pyrois more opportunities to deliver damage.

Norma Best Mindscape

M1 – Visionary Extremism

For Norma’s EX Special Attack: Explosive Experiment, the missile bay deployed by En-Nah Turret lasts longer, with the duration increased to 12 seconds. If an Armor-Piercing Warhead or a High-Explosive Warhead from any skill hits an enemy, the target’s All-Attribute resistance is reduced by 15% for 15 seconds, and repeated triggers reset the duration.

M2 – Axiom of Universal Unity

The Stun damage multiplier granted by each stack of Tech Divide in Norma’s Additional Ability: Advantage in Numbers increases to 6%. While in combat, when Norma uses Basic Attack: Hat Trick, she gains 25 Energy. This effect can happen once every 20 seconds.

M4 – Bangboo Superiority Theory

When Norma consumes Preheated Chamber to trigger a Chain Attack, both Norma and the corresponding Agent gain 200 Decibels.

M6 – The Primary Cause of Genius

After any squad member stuns an enemy, Norma will continuously fire missiles at random targets across the field for 6 seconds. A missile launches every 0.75 seconds, dealing Fire damage equal to 200% of Norma’s ATK to enemies within the area. This damage is treated as [Ultimate] damage. If it triggers again, the duration is reset, and the effect can activate once every 30 seconds. Additionally, the Daze inflicted by [Armor-Piercing Warhead] increases by 30%, and the damage dealt by [High-Explosive Warhead] increases by 30%.
