Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader Ancient Bunker Guide—Loot, Gas Danger, Route
The Ancient Bunker on Oasis V is a rundown Imperial installation that you’ll need to comb through to complete one of Jae’s companion objectives in Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader. While there’s just a single optional fight during your visit, the real threat is the poisonous gas that seeps through the facility. Because your window to explore is limited, this guide focuses on the key loot locations inside the Ancient Bunker.
Before you dive in, here’s an early build and approach for Abelard, the loyal right-hand man you’ll rely on throughout WH40K: Rogue Trader.
How to Get the Worn Seal for Jae in Rogue Trader
Before entering the Ancient Bunker, it’s strongly recommended to bring Pasqal. Give him a strong Tech-Use score so he can open most doors for you. If you didn’t bring him—or if his Tech-Use isn’t high enough—use the keys shown on the map you’re working from.
The Worn Seal is the main reason many players make the trip. You can find it by opening one of the lockers beyond the shower area in the western section of the bunker. First, force the main door, then turn left down the corridor. Go through the showers and open the locked door that leads into a maintenance room. The Worn Seal is inside one of the lockers in that maintenance room.
While you’re inside, the gas will keep harming your party members nonstop, and it can also affect familiars. Still, it’s not something you have to panic about. If your retinue’s health drops dangerously low, leave back to the Voidship and then re-enter the Ancient Bunker. If you want the gas gone for good, though, there’s a solution.
How to Get Rid of the Gas in the Ancient Bunker
From the maintenance room, head toward the north side of the hallway outside. Then open the second door on your right to reach a boiler room as well as a room containing a Cogitator that manages the ventilation. To clear the toxic atmosphere, follow these steps:
- Grab the valve next to the Cogitator (or use it if you already have one).
- Attach the valve to the vertical pipe near the boiler room’s main entrance.
- Interact with the valve you just placed.
- Interact with the Cogitator.
- Trigger the emergency ventilation controls through the Cogitator.
Once that’s done, the gas should be purged, letting you loot the bunker without constantly taking damage.
Other Notable Items
Beyond the assorted supplies you can use to build reputation with the factions in Rogue Trader, the Ancient Bunker also has two distinctive drops:
- Sworn Protector Las Gun: Provides +1 resolve for each enemy you kill until the end of the current combat. It can only be equipped by characters with the Iconoclast — Adherent alignment.
- Combi-Tool: Grants the wearer +10 Tech-Use, making it easier to pass tougher skill checks. It’s best suited for characters who already have high Tech-Use, such as Pasqal.
That said, both items are somewhat underwhelming. The Sworn Protector loses a lot of its value late in Act 2, and the Combi-Tool doesn’t do much for you during actual fights.
