Supamonks Team Kept on Absolum Project as Game and IP Move Forward

Here’s a rare streak of genuinely good news for the games industry: the Supamonks team responsible for the art behind Absolum has been transferred to another organisation, allowing the series to keep moving forward.

Over the last several weeks, the industry has felt like it’s been taking one punch after another—especially if you’re not the type to shrug off bad headlines. Xbox is reportedly heading into major layoffs that could affect nearly any studio, while PlayStation continues pressing toward a digital-only direction that many players strongly dislike.

With all of that weighing on the mood, the update that landed hardest was the report a few days earlier that Supamonks—known for Absolum’s standout art direction—had been placed into court-ordered liquidation. That raised serious questions about whether Absolum would have a future. Fortunately, there’s now a positive development that suggests things are still looking bright.

Absolum’s Art Team Is Being Reassigned To Support Future Work On The Game, IP, And Animation

The Animated Series Will Continue Too

The official Absolum page posted an update on Twitter addressing the situation, thanking fans for their “many messages of support and questions about the future” of the game. The post confirmed that the Supamonks team that had been working specifically on Absolum has moved to a different, unnamed organisation.

Separately, Absolum art director Maxime Mary provided TheGamer with an exclusive look at how the game’s four heroes were created, along with additional details about his time working on it.

In practical terms, this transfer effectively means the Absolum art team is being kept in place to continue work on the game through upcoming updates, support the broader IP if additional plans are made, and also carry forward the animated series that was announced earlier. While it’s still deeply unfortunate that Supamonks as a company was hit so severely, it appears Absolum itself is maintaining momentum.

It also indirectly confirms that the Supamonks art team is involved with the animated series, since that involvement had only been hinted at before.

Absolum is widely regarded as one of the strongest indie releases from the past few years, and it had real momentum ahead of it. So it’s especially encouraging to hear that the closure of Supamonks won’t derail what Talamh has built—its art style looks set to continue, and that’s something worth celebrating.
