Dragon Ball Z Update Could Add New Character Races via Time Gods Era

While it won’t rewrite the cosmic power ladder established by Dragon Ball Z—a structure that’s been broadened across the wider franchise through projects like Super and Daima—an upcoming release is clearly pushing its own roster forward with fresh character races. Dragon Ball Z itself is also set to grow with the Time Gods of Destruction, and now fans are eyeing the possibility that Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 will bring at least two additional playable races to the table as well.

Even though the original Dragon Ball Z anime and manga wrapped up in the 1990s, the universe keeps feeling like it’s still expanding. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is slated for Fall 2026, positioned as a retelling of the Battle of the Gods storyline. At the same time, the Dragon Ball Super anime is actively working on an adaptation of the Galactic Patrol Arc. And as the franchise stretches further across space-time, it’s also finding ways to pull the spotlight onto time itself.

A new Dragon Ball Super remake is coming in Fall 2026 as well, starting with a fresh adaptation of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 Introducing 2 New Playable Races

  • Earthlings
  • Saiyans
  • Namekians
  • Majins
  • The Frieza race
  • Bio-Androids (New Playable Race)
  • Kaioshin/Demons (New Playable Race)

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 is expected to release in 2027, and the upcoming entry is widely believed to be expanding its playable roster from five races in Xenoverse 2 to seven. If that holds, then two of those slots would be brand-new playable races for Xenoverse 3.

That’s not a confirmation, but the most common early expectation is that one of the new additions will be Bio-Androids—an idea that draws comparisons to Cell from the anime and Android 21 from Dragon Ball FighterZ. Since their theme centers on evolving into new physical forms, fans will be watching closely to see how (and whether) Bio-Android concepts can be translated into Xenoverse 3’s gameplay loop.

The second rumored race is tied to Kaioshin, often framed as Supreme Kais, and/or Demons. It’s still unclear whether the game would add one of these groups, both, or something that blends the two, especially because they’re described as sharing a related background. Demons are essentially treated as the darker counterparts to Kaioshin.

These rumored races are believed to be on the way to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 as various outlets and content creators have discussed them. Their chatter lines up with industry events, even if Bandai Namco Entertainment has only offered light hints about what’s coming for the game’s new features so far. Still, developers have been teasing that additional races are in the pipeline, even if these specific candidates turn out to be wrong.

In a previous conversation with Monstervine, executive producer Masayuki Hirano said he wouldn’t share too much when pressed about races directly. However, he did make a broader point about customization, explaining that, “The range of customization is both horizontal and vertical. If that makes sense, it is going to be much deeper and wider. New races are still TBD, but from Universe 2 to Universe 3, the range of customization is going to increase a lot.”

In other words, Hirano wasn’t providing an official yes-or-no on new races for Xenoverse 3. But “deeper” is read as expanding what players can do within character creation and customization options, while “wider” suggests that new choices may be available right from the start. After a decade spent with Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, it makes sense that the fanbase wants more than just Earthlings, Saiyans, Namekians, Majins, and the Frieza race.

Identify the silhouettes before time runs out.

Of course, there’s still the possibility of other explanations, but most of the community seems convinced this is what’s happening. There’s still time for CyberConnect 2 and Bandai Namco to show more of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, yet the game remains one of the most anticipated titles across the broader genre.
