City Town Guide: Locations, Shops, Donations, and Friendship Progress in Hello Kitty Island Adventure

City Town is the first full city-style district you’ll visit in Hello Kitty Island Adventure on Imagination Island—and it’s packed with new residents, shops, and donation spots for fish and critters. It also introduces a bunch of progression goals tied to Friendship levels, plus a DLC storyline that leads you into the area.

Key takeaways

  • City Town is the first metropolis area on Imagination Island and becomes available after reaching Friendship Level 7 with several specific characters.
  • On Apple Arcade, City Town is included automatically, but on other platforms it must be bought as a separate DLC.
  • To begin the City Town questline, you need to complete “Ship Shape,” which requires unlocking Snorkel and Fishing and raising multiple friendships to Level 7.
  • City Town expands daily activities with new businesses like Imagination Cafe, plus a housing system for visitors via Rainbow Tower.
  • Sewers content is locked behind higher Usahana friendship (Level 9) and includes additional quest access, puzzle rooms, and new collectible materials.

Checklists

City Town is Hello Kitty Island Adventure’s first metropolis on Imagination Island. This area can be reached fairly early once you unlock Friendship Level 7 with Badtz-maru, Chococat, Keroppi, Kuromi, and Cinnamoroll. After you wait a day, you can start the Ship Shape quest by speaking with Badtz-maru on the beach near the Comic Book Stand.

City Town brings you fresh adventures and a brand-new friend. You’ll also get access to the Imagination Cafe, which opens a menu of new foods through the Chef’s Station, and City Critter Park, which expands on the Nature Preserve by letting you donate the newest fish and critters. By finishing quests, you can unlock additional stores to shop at. Players can also recruit new visitors and place them in the Rainbow Tower, using Orange Sherbet Crates scattered around City Town.

How to Access City Town DLC

City Town content is automatically included with the Apple Arcade version of Hello Kitty Island Adventure. On other platforms, however, it needs to be purchased separately as DLC—such as on Nintendo Switch or Steam.

You can buy the City Town DLC on Steam, the Nintendo Store, or the PlayStation Store for $24.99. After downloading and installing it, you can unlock the City Town storyline by completing the quest “Ship Shape.” To start “Ship Shape,” you must:

  • Finish “Deep Diving” to unlock the Snorkel
  • Finish “Keep it Reel” to unlock Fishing
  • Finish “A Zipline Adventure”
  • Raise the Friendship Levels of Badtzu-Maru, Cinnamoroll, Chococat, Keroppi, and Kuromi to 7

Once you’ve completed everything above, a boat will show up at the Island Resort docks, and you’ll be able to talk to Badtz-maru to begin the Quest. Completing “Ship Shape” and its follow-up “Into the Fog” grants full access to City Town.

City Town Characters

Usahana welcomes you when you arrive in City Town for the first time. At the moment, she’s the only character who lives in City Town. She’s into colorful items such as Colorpillars and Rainbow Dango, and she also enjoys the delicious Mochi and Dango you can craft at the Imagination Cafe. Make sure you save Friendship Blossoms so you can give Usahana three extra gifts during the day.

After the apartment is unlocked, Panya, Wanwa, Sora, Nyako, and Buppi can be recruited as Traveling Visitors who live in the Rainbow Tower. Bring My Melody to reduce the number of Orange Sherbet Crates needed to unlock Rainbow Tower apartments, and fill the Tower rooms with plenty of Imagination Cafe sweets to help you befriend these visitors faster.

City Town Important Locations and Building Unlock Guide

City Town is brimming with things to do, but just like Merry Meadow, you’ll find many areas only open up once Usahana’s Friendship is high enough—particularly for key spots like the Imagination Cafe and the Sewers. As you finish more City Town quests, you can also encourage characters including Pekkle and My Sweet Piano to set up stores in the district. And, of course, you’ll have new fish and critters to hunt down and collect.

Imagination Cafe

After you unlock Usahana’s Friendship quest “A Whole New Menu” at Level 3, Usahana travels back to Friendship Island to watch the player cook at Hello Kitty’s Shop. Inspired, she asks you to help her run the Imagination Cafe, which also unlocks new recipes that use Rice Flour and other ingredients.

At the Chef’s Station, you can craft Mochi, Dango, Boba Tea, Onigiri, Snow Ice, Ramen, Taiyaki, and Sando. Each new menu item requires completing quests around City Town.

Rainbow Tower

Rainbow Tower sits on the left side of City Town, positioned to the left of the foggy street. It’s easy to spot thanks to its height, bright colors, and the pair of Usahana ears on top.

Use Usahana’s Sign outside the building. The interaction will ask for five Orange Sherbet Crates to unlock Rainbow Tower. If you bring My Melody, the requirement drops by one crate. To upgrade the building and add an Apartment, you’ll need 10 Orange Sherbert Crates. There are currently five Island Visitors who can live there, with more potentially added later.

City Critter Park

City Critter Park works similarly to the Nature Preserve in Spooky Swamp. It’s the place where you donate the critters you find throughout City Town. As with the Preserve, there’s a Nul inside the Critter Park that you can approach to donate your discoveries.

Sewers

The Sewers are located beneath City Town and only open once you reach Friendship Level 9 with Usahana. After completing the “Tea Time” quest, you can unlock a follow-up sewer investigation quest called “Above and Below.”

Inside the Sewers you’ll find the Shadow Spray fish, the critter Squeakle, and the crafting material Seaweed. The Sewers also contain puzzle rooms you can open using City Keys. You can find City Keys around City Town, receive them as quest rewards, or get them from customers once you’re satisfied with service at the Imagination Cafe.

Piano Plush Pals

Piano Plush Pals is a shop on the right side of City Town owned by My Sweet Piano. The shop unlocks through a quest chain that begins with “Design a Dream.” Here, you can buy customizable Plush Pals. Currently available designs include Colorpillar, Crowbert, Banana, Avocado, Seal, and Nul.

Pekkle’s Music Shop

Pekkle’s Music Shop is located in the center of City Town. Pekkle opens it during the quest “Downtown Tunes.” Each day it stocks Music Discs, including the possibility of rare or time-limited discs.

Keroppi’s Orchard

Keroppi helps you plant an Orchard through quests “Outside the Blocks” and “Branching Out.” This Orchard is set up on the rooftops of City Town, near the City Rooftop fast travel mailbox. It can be used to grow fruit that you can turn into dishes at the Imagination Cafe.

Theater

Usahana, Hangyodon, and Hello Kitty collaborate to open a Theater via a quest chain that starts with “Meant for the Stage.” The Theater is on the lowest rooftop tier—one level below the Rooftop fast travel mailbox. It’s also the setting for an intriguing mystery involving a spooky ghost.

Wheatflour Wonderland Portal

If you have access to the Wheatflour Wonderland DLC, you can unlock a portal between the two regions in the quest “Saving Snacks.” The portal is located to the left of the Imagination Cafe, and it opens near Cogimyon’s Corral in Wheatflour Wonderland.

Tourist Shop

The Tourist Shop is run by Hangyodon and is unlocked during quests “Playing Tourist” and “Washed In.” It sells City Town-inspired items such as clothing and accessories themed around Usahana, Rainbow Tower, and the Nuls that live there. The shop sits between the Music Shop and Piano Plush Pals.

Kuromi’s Boutique

Unlocked through a quest chain starting with “Cake-tastrophe,” Kuromi’s Boutique is on the eastern rooftop of City Town. Inside, you can create custom Avatar Palettes using distinctive color combinations, then test those palettes on your character. (A guide to the quest “Magic Makeover” can show how palette creation works.)

Tuxedosam’s Fashion Emporium

After you successfully throw a fashion show in City Town, Tuxedosam is inspired to open a store selling City Town-style fashion. Opening it requires a long sequence of quests—begin with “Fashion Forward.” Keep in mind that this store has its own separate inventory from Tuxedosam’s Shop in the Seaside Resort.

Badtz-Maru’s Arcade

Badtz-Maru’s Arcade is a sleek, modern store on the rooftops of City Town. It opens through a quest chain starting with “Insert Dream to Start.” Inside are three new mini-games where you can earn Tickets that you can trade for City Town-themed prizes. There’s also a gacha machine that lets you obtain character figurines from your favorites.

Sashimi Spire

Once you’ve opened every other business in City Town, you can start a quest chain beginning with “City Town Sleuth.” As you move through the quests, you’ll meet Kirimi-chan and unlock Sashimi Spire—a tall spire topped with a boat that floats in the water off the east side of City Town. Upgrading the Sashimi Spire unlocks various Imaginary Fish and Seafood that you can catch around City Town and convert into Nigiri and Sushi Rolls at the Imagination Cafe.

City Town Materials

Materials in City Town are limited early on. Two materials can only be purchased once the Imagination Cafe has been upgraded to its highest level. The remaining materials depend on the weather conditions or require that the Sewers are accessible.

City Town Critters

You can catch City Town Critters using the Net tool. From there, you can donate them to City Critter Park or give them as gifts to raise Friendship Levels with Usahana. Colorpillar is the best starter gift for Usahana until you unlock more of City Town and its quest content.

City Town Fish

City Town Fish can be found in any body of water, including a water tank on one of the buildings. Use the Fishing Rod tool to reel them in, then donate them to the Fwishing Well or gift them to increase relationships.
