How Skypiea’s “Gods” connect to the Elbaf-era reveals
The idea of gods in the One Piece world isn’t new—it shows up in the pre-timeskip portion of the story, especially during the Skypiea arc. In One Piece Chapter 287, which officially released on August 11, 2003 as part of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Double Issue #37–38, Oda depicted traditions of the Shandians while they still lived in Jaya. Noland had just arrived to visit them, and the Shandians were shown praying to four specific divine figures: the Sun God, Rain God, Forest God, and Earth God.
When Skypiea was first written, many readers treated those “gods” as Shandian superstition. That perception shifted in a major way when Luffy was confirmed as the Sun God in One Piece Chapter 1044 on March 28, 2022. Once that confirmation landed, the old Skypiea references stopped feeling like folklore and started looking like groundwork for something real.
“God of the Sun, God of the Rain, God of the Forest, God of the Earth, please take this woman’s blood and save our village from disaster.” — One Piece Chapter #287
Fast-forward to Elbaf’s aftermath setup: in One Piece Chapter 1138, released on February 3, 2025 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #10, Oda introduced The Harley. That piece of storytelling covers a long-ago conflict and also points toward a future battle. Importantly, the battles mentioned there line up with the same divine names—supporting the idea that more gods will appear after Elbaf ends.
The real turning point for the remaining gods comes with One Piece Chapter 1182, released on May 10, 2026 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #24. In that chapter, Saint Killingham uses his Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Kirin to bring Rain God Zaza into manifestation.
“We were born in a place so high, it’s above all the rain clouds. Water coming down from the sky? It’s a mysterious terror! After the people of D and Nika, it was the most common boogeyman they warned us about… that in the lower world, there’s a monster called the Rain God that dumps water on top of your head!” — Saint Killingham, One Piece Chapter #1182
Killingham also spells out that—alongside the people of D and the Sun God—Rain God Zaza is an entity feared by all Celestial Dragons. In other words: this isn’t just a myth within the world; it’s something the highest power structure in One Piece treats as a genuine threat. Zaza’s danger is tied to rain control, letting it unleash massive downpours onto someone’s head. While readers have only seen a version of Rain God Zaza in a “MMA” style format so far, the implication is that the Final Saga will eventually showcase the god’s true power in a bigger way.

Why Rain God Zaza is heading toward a Sun God alliance
Chapter 1182 doesn’t just introduce Rain God Zaza—it also frames it as an adversary of the World Government. Since the Celestial Dragons fear Zaza in a similar way to how they fear the people of D and the Sun God, the story now treats Zaza as part of the same larger opposing force. With that in place, the narrative confirms that Rain God Zaza will ally with the Sun God and choose to fight against the World Government. Whenever Zaza enters a conflict, it’s positioned to fight alongside Luffy, which is exactly the kind of cross-god team-up fans have been waiting to see.
With Rain God Zaza revealed, two of the four gods prayed to in One Piece Chapter 287 are now confirmed on-panel. That same confirmation also keeps the other two in the spotlight: the Forest God and the Earth God.
“The Earth God was enraged, and together with its serpent of Hellfire, shrouded the earth in death and darkness. And they will never meet.” — The Harley, One Piece Chapter #1138
Oda also “upgraded” Luffy’s Haki in the manga’s battle against Nerona Imu in Chapter 1186, adding another layer to how prepared Luffy is becoming for the Final Saga’s heavier mythic players.
One Piece’s Forest God and Earth God as likely drivers of the Great War
Now that Sun God Nika has arrived in the One Piece world and Rain God Zaza has been introduced in Elbaf, attention shifts to the remaining major names: the Forest God and the Earth God. At the moment, very little concrete information is available about them, including who might wield their powers and when they’ll show up. However, since the story is approaching its last stretch, their eventual reveal shouldn’t be too far off.
“Within the Void, there was breath. The Forest God tamed the demons, and the Sun spread the fires of war. Those of the half moon dreamed. Those of the moon dreamed. Man killed the Sun and became God, and the Sea God stormed. And they’ll never meet again.” — The Harley, One Piece Chapter #1138
The Forest God is briefly referenced in The Harley in One Piece Chapter 1138. It’s described as holding the power to send forth demons, which could link it to Devil Fruit users in some way. Still, the story hasn’t clarified how the Forest God will influence the Great War or which side it will support.
Then there’s the Earth God, which—based on how the Harley’s narration describes past conflicts—appears to have fought against Sun God Nika. Because of that, the Earth God is likely to oppose Luffy and Rain God Zaza when it’s eventually revealed. For now, fans are left waiting for the three major gods set up after Elbaf, and for the answers to who ends up holding their abilities and how those divine forces will reshape the Final Saga’s direction.
