Mass Effect Noveria Hot Labs: Combat Tips, Loot Routes, and Dialogue Choices

The Noveria: The Hot Labs mission is one of Mass Effect’s more chaotic Noveria runs, combining uneasy intel, a timed “get-out” moment, and a room full of Rachni you’ll want to handle quickly. Here’s how to clear the combat sections, grab what you need, and choose the right dialogue to keep your playthrough moving.

Enter the Hot Labs

Warning

It’s strongly advised not to start this mission until you’ve finished “Noveria: Rift Station” and “Noveria: Quarantine.” Those earlier missions reward you with a solid amount of XP and Morality Points, and completing Hot Labs will make every involved NPC from those two quests hostile toward you.

There’s also a story payoff: if you clear Hot Labs before doing “Noveria: Matriarch Benezia,” you’ll unlock extra lines of dialogue later in that Matriarch Benezia mission.

The access point to the Hot Labs is located in the Tram Station on Rift Station, right beside the elevator that leads up to Captain Ventralis. You have to speak with him to be allowed into the Hot Labs area.

If you’ve just finished “Noveria: Matriarch Benezia,” there’s a shortcut door in that region that takes you straight back to the Tram Station. From there, the Hot Labs entrance is immediately to your right.

Once you’re inside the Hot Labs, talk to the man you find there: Yaroslev Tartakovsky. He’ll fill you in on disturbing details—pay attention. Fortunately, there’s an option to deal with the Rachni infestation here: you can activate the neutron purge using Mira.

Move to the northernmost room and speak with the Mira Console to get a clearer picture of what’s happening. When you eventually try to activate the neutron purge that Tartakovsky mentioned, you’ll hit a temporary block—you can’t proceed without a password.

Return to Tartakovsky and request the code. He’ll start to provide it, but then a Rachni ambushes and kills him—meaning you’ll need to act fast to eliminate the threat. After the Rachni is dealt with, collect the purge codes by examining Yaroslev’s body. Then go back to the Mira Console and bring up the neutron purge interface again.

Arm the Purge

When you’re confident you’ve pulled every relevant detail from the Mira Console, give Mira the code. Once you do, the neutron purge begins—and you’ll get a limited window of about two minutes to reach the far south, where you can safely return to the tram station area.

Reaching that exit requires running back through the space where Yaroslav was, and that route is absolutely crawling with Rachni.

You can choose to stay behind and fight for the XP—there’s a lot available—but if the Rachni in this section have been giving you trouble up to this point, you’ll almost certainly get overwhelmed. With the purge timer ticking, the safest approach is to move quickly and prioritize getting out. Once you step into the elevator, you’ll hear the neutron purge trigger below you, and then you’ll be back at the tram station.

After the purge, you’ll need to decide what comes next:

  • If you haven’t yet visited the Secure Labs and you still need to do “Noveria: Matriarch Benezia,” go there to continue the Noveria questline.
  • If you’ve already met Benezia, take the tram instead. You’ll skip through Peak 15, Aleutsk Valley, and Port Hanshan, landing directly in the Normandy’s Comm Room for a team debrief.
