Westeros Isn’t Over Yet: Every Interactive Map and New Location Guide
Direct adaptations of George R. R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire may be done for now after eight seasons, but Westeros isn’t going anywhere. HBO has already moved beyond the main line with multiple spin-off series built from Martin’s other writing, and more are still lined up. If you’re looking to stretch your HBO Max time beyond revisiting your favorite moments, the next wave of shows gives you plenty of new angles on the realm.
Right now, the only two spin-off series you can watch on HBO Max are House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. House of the Dragon season 3 is continuing with weekly episode drops throughout July, with the season finale set for August 9.
Spin-Offs You Can Watch Now
House of the Dragon (3 Seasons so far)
House of the Dragon is a loose adaptation of Martin’s Fire & Blood rather than a strict one-to-one retelling. More specifically, it charts the early history of the Targaryens after the reign of King Viserys I. The show takes place roughly two centuries before the events of Game of Thrones, and it has currently aired for two seasons.
Season 3 of House of the Dragon launched in June and is rolling out new episodes on a weekly schedule. HBO has also confirmed the series will conclude with its fourth season, which is planned to premiere sometime in 2028. If you want to see how the first two seasons landed, you can look up reviews for season 1 and season 2, as well as coverage of the season 3 premiere.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (1 Season so far)
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms draws from Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas and, so far, has only one season. Season 1 consisted of six episodes, adapting The Hedge Knight, the first novella in the series. The story centers on a hedge knight known as Duncan the Tall, and the unlikely squire who ends up traveling with him: Egg.
The first season wrapped in early 2026, but HBO has already renewed the series for a second run. Season 2 will adapt the next novella, The Sworn Sword, which is set a few years after the events of Season 1. You can also find a spoiler-free review of the first season. Separately, a 4K Blu-ray release of the film is available as of June 2026.

Upcoming Spin-Offs in Development
The author has confirmed that several spin-off projects are currently in development, each aiming to expand the stories of Westeros. While not every title and detail is finalized, there’s still enough information floating around to understand the general direction HBO is taking in the near term—and beyond.
Animated 9 Voyages Series
Among the spin-offs in development, the animated 9 Voyages series is one that has recently received an update. During an interview, HBO CEO Casey Bloys indicated that the project is moving forward with Genndy Tartakovsky attached. The show would follow Lord Corlys Velaryon, better known as the Sea Snake. Tartakovsky is widely recognized for work on other animated projects, including Primal and Samurai Jack.
Arya Stark Sequel
There had been chatter about a Jon Snow follow-up, but later reports claimed that idea was replaced by an Arya Stark sequel. No official confirmation has been shared, and the series is still in very early development, but it appears this is the path HBO is leaning toward.
It’s not yet clear whether the sequel will actually move forward, but the project has been reported to be written by Quoc Dang Tran. Meanwhile, Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams has not confirmed whether she will be involved.
10,000 Ships
Another prequel, 10,000 Ships, has reportedly been in development for a long time. Back in 2021, it was reported that the spin-off had secured a writer in Amanda Segal. Earlier this year, Casey Bloys confirmed that the series is still in the works, but that it would be written by Ebony Booth instead. The premise is set 1,000 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follows the story of Princess Nymeria.
At the moment, there aren’t many additional details beyond the fact that a writer is attached.
Aegon’s Conquest
The last prequel project that has provided at least some concrete information is Aegon’s Conquest. In the same Casey Bloys interview earlier this year, it was mentioned that the series is being written by Mattson Tomlinson. In an interview with George R. R. Martin, it was suggested that the project—potentially even a feature film—would cover King Aegon Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros.
There were reports that a Game of Thrones movie was “firmly” in development and likely focused on Aegon I, but no further information has been released since then.
