Ubisoft Shows Extended Gameplay for Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake
Ubisoft used its time during Opening Night Live to pull back the curtain on Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake, and this time around the reveal came with far more than a short teaser. A new, longer look at the project focuses on how the classic fantasy turn-based strategy will be rebuilt for modern hardware—while keeping the series’ map-and-army gameplay identity.
What’s new in the remake’s gameplay
A new nine-minute video centers on actual in-game play. Ubisoft says the remake is being developed on the company’s own engine, with an emphasis on making the world feel more alive than the original.
- The game is being brought into 3D, with a more dynamic game world.
- Seasonal changes will affect maps over time.
- A weather system is planned.
- Creatures are expected to respond to armies moving through the area.
Strategy, heroes, and city management upgrades
Beyond visual refresh, the presentation also outlines several systems aimed at streamlining decision-making during turns.
- A strategic overview view will let players preview the entire map for planning routes and moves.
- Heroes can be managed through automation, letting players assign tasks such as gathering resources, following the main character, or transporting recruited units from castles directly to the front lines.
- City management is set to receive upgrades, including a “wishlist” style system for queuing construction plans without repeatedly returning to the castle screen.
- The interface is also being modernized to improve readability.
Campaign structure, multiplayer pacing, and mod support
Ubisoft also highlighted changes that affect both the single-player campaign experience and long-term community content.
- The campaign will gain a new prologue.
- Three familiar sagas will be connected into a single continuous story, with added cinematic interludes.
- Multiplayer is set to introduce a simultaneous-turn system, intended to speed up multiplayer matches.
- Modding support is a major focus, including an improved editor for creating new scenarios, adjusting gameplay balance, and personalizing the soundtrack from within the game.
- At launch, the remake will be compatible with hundreds of classic maps and campaigns created by players for the original.
