Thierry Henry Says Spain’s Structure Makes Them Impossible to Stop
Thierry Henry has hailed Spain’s latest international cycle as a collective triumph, arguing that their World Cup-winning side showed why a clear identity and disciplined structure can outweigh dependence on individual stars.

Henry said Spain’s defining quality was the strength of the group rather than one headline player. He pointed to the work, philosophy and identity that have long been associated with the national side, insisting that the World Cup was won by the tournament’s outstanding team.
“The team is the star,” Henry said, reflecting on Spain’s record in major matches against France. “Their approach, their identity and putting the collective before individuals have brought them this reward. The best team won the World Cup. It was a masterclass.”

Defensive control matched Spain’s attacking football

Henry suggested that the number of chances conceded was as important as the final goals-against record. He said he believed Spain faced only around 10 shots on target across the competition, crediting their pressing and their ability to keep opponents away from dangerous areas.
“If you press properly and keep the opposition far from your goal, that is the outcome,” he said.
The Frenchman also underlined the difficulty of playing against a side capable of controlling matches on and off the ball. In his view, opponents are often asked how to counter Spain, but must first find a way to function for long periods without possession.
Henry said Spain dominated in both phases and described them as the one team he would least want to meet. France, he added, have repeatedly struggled against Spain in major competition.
