Yan Diomande Set for Real Madrid Run After Vinicius Jr’s Four-Match Ban
Real Madrid are set to reconsider their left-sided attacking options after Vinicius Junior received a four-match ban for pulling Villarreal defender Nathan Saliba’s hair. The suspension removes Madrid’s established number seven from a demanding run of domestic fixtures and could give 19-year-old Diomande an extended opportunity in the first team.
Diomande, the Ivorian international signed for €146 million, has spent much of his early spell at the Santiago Bernabeu waiting behind Vinicius. His return of one goal and two assists from 10 appearances in all competitions has nevertheless strengthened the case for a larger role.
José Mourinho has already shown renewed faith in the teenager, restoring him to the starting side for Madrid’s 4-3 Champions League comeback against AS Roma. With Vinicius unavailable, Diomande is expected to be among the leading options to start again on the left this weekend.
Opening for Madrid’s record signing
There had already been calls around the club for Diomande to be selected ahead of Vinicius before the Villarreal incident. The Brazilian’s absence now gives Mourinho a clearer chance to use the summer arrival in his favoured area rather than as a rotational alternative.
The coming matches could be decisive in determining whether Diomande can turn his encouraging first contributions into a permanent place in Madrid’s attacking hierarchy. Sevilla, Racing and Valencia are next on the domestic schedule, offering the forward a sequence of games in which to establish rhythm and consistency.
Camp Nou test awaits
The most significant date in that run is October 25, when Madrid visit Barcelona at Camp Nou for El Clasico. A strong display in that fixture would represent Diomande’s biggest opportunity yet to validate the scale of his €146 million move.
Mourinho retains the final call on how Madrid cover Vinicius’s suspension, but Diomande’s selection against Roma and his growing influence make him the natural candidate to take on the left-wing role over the next four matches.
