The game launched on May 19, 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Later, a “Complete Edition” version arrived on Nintendo Switch on October 15, 2019. The experience is built around a large open world, a wide-ranging storyline, and roughly 100 hours of playtime centered on exploration and encounters with the people (and non-humans) you meet along the way.
Story-wise, The Witcher 3 picks up Geralt’s journey after The Witcher 2, where the Northern Realms are dealing with a Nilfgaardian occupation force. Geralt receives a puzzling letter from his past relationship, the sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg. From there, Geralt sets out to reunite with Yennefer, a quest that stretches across continents and ultimately brings him back toward his lost protégé, Ciri.
