The Division 2 Adds Central Park Expansion and Crossplay in 2026 Roadmap
The Division 2 is finally closing a long-running lore gap by bringing its agents into Central Park—an area that has remained off-limits since the franchise’s New York roots. Alongside that expansion announcement, Ubisoft has mapped out key 2026 changes for The Division 2’s seasonal content, Dark Zone variants, and the long-awaited arrival of crossplay.
New season play: Red Horizon brings a new global pressure system and Dark Zone shakeups
Red Horizon is already live in The Division 2, adding a new storyline in Washington where “pyromaniac Cleaners” push into the city. Ubisoft confirmed two missions for the season: one set in a burning shopping center and another in the Georgetown area.
The season is built around a global modifier called “Under Pressure.” Instead of treating kills as purely offensive actions, the system ties each kill to a progress gauge that grants bonuses as it fills. Players can also spend that gauge to trigger passive bonus effects.
Ubisoft also flagged new weapons and gear for Red Horizon, with the items available to review through the studio’s official materials.
Outside the main questline, the Dark Zone’s PvPvE options are also being adjusted. A toxic variant is set to remain permanently, while a “Blackout” variant will remove level normalization, aiming for a harsher, more punishing experience.
- Red Horizon is available now in The Division 2
- Two missions: a burning mall setting and a Georgetown location
- Global modifier “Under Pressure” rewards kills with a fillable bonus gauge
- New weapons and equipment are planned for the season
- Dark Zone changes: toxic variant stays permanently; Blackout removes level normalization
2026 roadmap details: Black Tusk returns, escalation gets tuned, and prototype gear is reworked
Ubisoft also provided additional clarity on what’s coming later in 2026. During “Season 4,” players will again face the paramilitary group Black Tusk, with an option to encounter the elite White Tusk variant as well.
On the progression side, Massive Entertainment will revisit the prototype equipment system with the stated goal of reducing randomness in upgrades. The aim is to make it easier to craft the gear builds players want.
Ubisoft also said the Escalation mode will receive corrections to give players more precise control over the risks and rewards they can expect to earn during runs.
Crossplay arrives in November: bigger squads and default platform mixing
Perhaps the most broadly impactful quality-of-life change is that crossplay is finally coming to The Division 2 in November. Ubisoft’s plan is straightforward: starting then, players will be able to encounter users from other platforms by default.
Ubisoft also increased the maximum clan size, raising it to 100. The purpose is to let players invite more friends into the same group as crossplay expands the pool of potential teammates.
The Central Park expansion: an official gameplay reveal is scheduled for September 24
Ubisoft’s major expansion headline for the year is The Division 2: Echoes of Central Park, which will bring the next chapter of the Division’s story into Central Park’s Upper West Side. Ubisoft’s explanation for why agents previously never ventured there ties directly to the city’s outbreak history: Central Park was used as a massive mass grave.
In the new story, survivors from inside the park deliver a distress call, claiming a new threat has taken residence there. Ubisoft emphasized the setting’s horror tone, citing heavy vegetation, mass graves, and torrential rain as part of the atmosphere players will face.
For visibility into the content, Ubisoft confirmed that official gameplay for Echoes of Central Park will be shown in a dedicated showcase on September 24 at 18:00 (French time). Until then, Red Horizon’s season content is already available for players to jump into.
