Square Enix Denies Any Plan to Delist, Quashes Stock Market Exit Rumors
Square Enix has moved quickly to shut down fresh speculation about a potential move off the stock market, denying that any internal discussions are underway about delisting despite a Japanese report that circulated widely enough to move its share price.
Square Enix denies any plan to leave the market
A report published in Japan’s monthly magazine Sentaku claimed Square Enix Holdings could be considering a withdrawal from the Tokyo listing. Square Enix responded with an investor-facing statement that directly contradicts the rumor, saying the information was not provided by the company and that “no deliberation” is currently being carried out within the group about delisting.
Rumors trigger a sharp market reaction
The speculation gained traction through coverage that described the situation as involving “credible speculation” about a possible change of status. That attention was strong enough to lift Square Enix’s shares by 8% on Tuesday on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, before the company issued its formal denial led by the group’s management.
Why this matters for investors and players
Square Enix is not alone in facing delisting talk—other major publishers have already left public markets through acquisitions (including Activision Blizzard and Electronic Arts) or by pursuing strategic routes (including Devolver Digital). However, most Japanese publishers remain listed and typically report results quarterly.
In Square Enix’s case, the company has also faced pressure from an activist investment fund: 3D Investment Partners, which holds 18.5% of Square Enix shares. Even so, Square Enix’s stance indicates it does not view its position as requiring an exit from the exchange.
On the product side, Square Enix’s outlook is tied to several releases expected to shape 2027, which the report frames as its most promising period in a long time. Those included titles are:
- Final Fantasy XIV: Evercold (January)
- Final Fantasy VII Revelation (spring)
- Kingdom Hearts IV (autumn)
What to watch next
With the delisting claim officially dismissed, the immediate question for the market is whether investor focus shifts back to quarterly results and the company’s release roadmap—especially as Square Enix continues to contend with activist ownership pressure while preparing for its 2027 lineup.
