PS Plus July 7 Lineup Revealed: Modern Warfare 3 Headlines New Arrivals
PlayStation says three additional games will be coming to PS Plus on July 7, arriving next week. The lineup ranges from a throwback, SNES-inspired action RPG to one of the more recent entries in the Call of Duty franchise—an inclusion that feels especially notable given the series’ ownership by Xbox and the fact that Call of Duty has been moving away from Game Pass going forward.
Here’s what’s headed to the service, which PS Plus tier you’ll need to access it, and what each game offers.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Essential — July 7
The biggest draw for next week is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023). Developed by Sledgehammer Games, it’s the sequel that has sparked plenty of debate, particularly around its campaign. In the story, Task Force 141 tracks down Vladimir Makarov, who’s working to trigger a third World War. With it now joining PS Plus, it’s being positioned as an easy time to jump in—especially because Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch later this year.
CrossCode
CrossCode, a sci-fi RPG from Radical Fish Games, is also scheduled to arrive next week for PS Plus Essential members. The game is described as SNES-inspired, promising dungeon-heavy exploration with a Zelda-like feel and a “massive adventure.” Players can expect seven distinct regions to explore, more than 120 enemy types, and an overall length estimated at roughly 30 to 80 hours.
For the King 2
Rounding out the additions is For the King 2, a critically noted roguelite tabletop RPG from IronOak Games. The premise has up to four players taking on a tyrannical queen while fighting through procedurally generated maps. The pitch includes a campaign lasting 30+ hours, plus an endless dungeon challenge mode. Combat uses dice-roll mechanics and is played out through turn-based encounters.
Of course, the announcement lands during a tense moment for PlayStation. Community members have been calling for a PS Plus boycott after Sony revealed it plans to stop producing physical video game discs in 2028. Viral social media posts urge players to “Speak up today or lose ownership forever!” The result is a growing online push for gamers to vote with their wallets and reconsider sticking with the subscription service, even if these new games look tempting.
