Project Hail Mary Lands on Prime Video This Friday, Amazon Confirms
Amazon has confirmed that Project Hail Mary is set to arrive on Prime Video this Friday, July 3. The update lands only a few weeks after the sci-fi crowd-pleaser started streaming on MGM+.
Prime Video release: “Having a Moment” spot and the streaming timing
The Prime Video date was shared via a promotional clip carrying the tagline “Having a Moment.” In the teaser, Ryan Gosling’s Ryland Grace joyfully repeats the same kind of enthusiastic outburst seen in the film—Rocky’s excitement—culminating in the line, “It is time go!”—as a celebration of the movie’s streaming arrival on Amazon’s platform.
Even with Prime Video availability confirmed, this isn’t being framed as the title’s true first-ever streaming stop. Project Hail Mary had already moved to digital after spending more than 50 days in theaters, and it began streaming on MGM+ on June 18. That earlier move led to some confusion, since Amazon’s decision restricted access to a less prominent service before widening to Prime Video.
One plausible explanation is that Amazon may have been aiming to drive MGM+ subscriptions by keeping the film exclusive for a period. At the same time, it’s still unclear whether the studio always intended for Project Hail Mary to be available across both services, or if the Prime Video rollout is a direct response to how the movie has performed while tied to MGM+.
Prime Video Ultra changes the ad-free math
While the Prime Video landing broadens where viewers can watch, it comes alongside a notable shift in Amazon’s streaming lineup. Prime Video recently renamed its ad-free tier to Prime Video Ultra, adding support for streaming in 4K Ultra HD while also increasing the plan’s cost by $2 per month.
For subscribers who want to watch Project Hail Mary without ads, the price structure now looks like this:
- The standard Prime membership cost is $14.99 per month.
- To watch the film ad-free on Prime Video Ultra, viewers must pay an extra $4.99 per month.
Home release, steelbook details, and what comes next
The streaming news arrives after additional announcements tied to the film’s broader release push, including confirmation of its Blu-ray availability date and the reveal of a visually striking limited-edition steelbook.
There’s also plenty of momentum beyond physical and streaming access. The movie has already earned high praise, with a review that rated it 8/10 and described it as “thrilling, heartfelt, and hilarious.” On top of that, Project Hail Mary is currently positioned as the third highest-grossing film of the year.
Discussions are already underway about turning the novel into something bigger—expanding the adaptation into a wider franchise rather than keeping it as a one-off release.
As part of that larger push, Amazon and Maze Studios have announced a “mixed reality” experience called Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars, with a release planned later this year.
The project also includes author Andy Weir, who took part in the endeavor. The idea is to “expand what happens outside of the book,” giving fans additional material beyond the original story.
