Pokémon GO Global GO Fest 2026 Lets You Claim Mega Mewtwo X, Y, and Zeraora
Pokémon GO players taking part in Global GO Fest 2026 can claim three standout, extremely rare Pokémon for free: Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Mewtwo Y, and Zeraora. Niantic’s long-running mobile hit is also marking a major milestone—its 10th anniversary—this July. As part of the celebrations, The Pokémon Company hosted a special appearance in Times Square in New York, spotlighting Mewtwo in a way that ties back to an older promotional moment from 2016. That showcase included a Mewtwo with a Special Background that isn’t obtainable anywhere else, alongside a Legendary version featuring perfect IVs and a 1-in-20 chance to be shiny.
Global GO Fest 2026: dates, free claims, and where the Pokémon show up
| Reward | How to get it | When it’s available |

| Mega Mewtwo Y | Join raids and the Genetic Mastery Timed Research | July 11 (10:00 AM–7:00 PM local) and July 12 (10:00 AM–7:00 PM local) |
| Zeraora | Complete Special Research titled “A Thunderous Discovery” | Limited-time event during Global GO Fest 2026 (same short window as the related Mega event) |
Global GO Fest 2026 is already building a reputation for being one of the biggest calendar events the game has seen in a long time. A new leak circulating ahead of the festivities is teasing a heavy lineup of special raid encounters, suggesting players should prepare for a packed couple of days once the event window opens.
You Can Now Get Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Mewtwo Y, and Zeraora For Free in Pokémon GO
Global GO Fest 2026 is the key to unlocking these rewards without spending in-game currency. Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y can be obtained for free by participating in raid battles and by completing the Genetic Mastery Timed Research. On top of that, Zeraora is tied to a separate Special Research quest line named “A Thunderous Discovery.”
The event is strictly limited. It runs from July 11 at 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM local time and continues on July 12 from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Niantic has also framed this as the first time players can obtain Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y in such an easy, free manner.
During those two days, Mewtwo will appear in Super Mega Raids. To turn Mewtwo into either Mega form, players will need Mega Energy. The Mega Energy is earned through the raid battles themselves by defeating Mewtwo. Additionally, finishing the Genetic Mastery Timed Research awards Candy that helps Mega Evolve Mewtwo into the selected Mega form—either Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y.
There’s one important catch for anyone planning their Mega roster: the Timed Research requires a choice. Players can only follow one path, meaning this method only lets you secure one Mega form from the research. In other words, you’ll have to decide whether you’re prioritizing Mega Mewtwo X or Mega Mewtwo Y before you commit.
