PlayStation State of Play Promises Ongoing Single-Player Updates for Games
PlayStation’s recent State of Play didn’t just look at what’s coming next—it also doubled down on how its single-player games can keep getting meaningful updates well after launch. From new modes to fresh story content, the theme was clear: more replayability and longer life cycles, often at no extra cost.

Ghost of Yōtei lands new content for its first-year celebration
The State of Play revealed details for two additions planned for Ghost of Yōtei: a narrative expansion titled Echoes of Sekigahara and a roguelike-style mode called Public Enemy. Together, they arrive October 1, 2026 as part of Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, though players will need to pay €14.99 for the upgrade.
Public Enemy is built around choosing characters—Atsu, Oyuki, Nagato, or Jin Sakai—and selecting a target. From there, the mode challenges you with waves of enemies and mini-bosses, handing out benefits after each wave to help strengthen your build before you face the boss.
As you push higher difficulties, you’ll be able to replay the bounties and eventually take on the toughest target: a final prime against Lord Saito. The mode also includes its own progression system to unlock new techniques, weapon upgrades, charms, and characters.
Story expansion: Sekigahara in the present and the past
Echoes of Sekigahara alternates between the present and memories of the Battle of Sekigahara. The events trace back to October 1600, when Atsu took part in that conflict, before the main events of Ghost of Yōtei.
The expansion focuses on Atsu’s earlier life, especially her former comrade Nagato, who is also one of the playable characters in Public Enemy and returns to Atsu’s story. While being hunted by the outlaw group the Vipers, Nagato leads Atsu into an unvisited area of Ezo—the foothills of Ashoro.
Saros’ Zenith update adds a new rush mode, plus New Game+
Saros is ending the year with a free update called Zenith, aimed squarely at extending the game’s lifespan. The headline addition is Overlord Rush, which lets players fight through the bosses from the campaign in sequence, while also featuring online leaderboards to compare results with other players.
Zenith also introduces New Game+, with deeper modifier support, new progression options, and additional secrets. On top of that, the update adds new accessibility features, including an option that lets players slow down the game speed.
Gran Turismo 7 continues its Spec IV support with two free drops
Gran Turismo 7, which already entered the live-service era after its early-2022 release, is set for another major update this autumn. The next content rollout, Spec IV, arrives in two parts—first in October and then again in December—and it will be free, continuing the pattern established by Spec II in November 2023 and Spec III in December 2025.
Spec IV adds two new tracks: Sportsland SUGO and Autumn Ring. It also brings 12 new cars, including the BMW M5, Honda Stepwagon Spada, and Citroën 2CV Charleston.
Beyond vehicles and circuits, the update includes new gameplay features such as online drift challenges and random races. It also introduces a Family mode designed to be a friendlier starting point for younger beginners.
