Pioneers Quest Guide: How to Reach the Moon and Solve Every Puzzle in Genshin

Starting the Pioneers quest in Genshin Impact sends you straight to the moon. It kicks off the first stretch of the Moon chapter, where travelers team up with Columbina to assist other characters. Here’s a step-by-step guide to solving every puzzle you’ll face during the Pioneers quest in Genshin Impact.

How to reach the moon in Genshin Impact

  1. Open the events menu.
  2. Select the tab labeled When We Look Up at the Moon.
  3. Press Go to warp to the Misty Shoal waypoint.
  4. Use the Moonlanes to move forward and locate Columbina.
  5. After the cutscene ends, the Pioneers quest will begin automatically.

How to activate the energy mechanisms

After walking around for a while, you’ll eventually need to locate the generator room to get everything working.

You’ll be introduced to a new mechanic called Archaeolune Energy.

  1. Absorb energy from one of the sources.
  2. Use that energy to activate the generator.
  3. Notice that the energy won’t travel correctly because the route is broken and blocked by an energy cube.
  4. Absorb the energy again, then aim it at the cube.
  5. Activate it to blast the object out of the way.
  6. Walk onto the upper path to lower the section, restoring the flow so the energy can move forward.

Which moon to choose in Genshin Impact

Once the required systems are active, you’ll be asked to choose which moon to visit. Even though you can click on Eternal Moon and Iridescent Moon, the machine warns you that there are no coordinates—meaning the only available destination is the Frost Moon.

The Frost Moon will show you three strange symbols. Keep them in mind, because they’ll matter later.

How to verify orbital coordinates

After you defeat the boss, the system begins a self-destruct sequence. To stop it, you must answer Paimon’s questions correctly.

  • When she asks for the Simplest-looking one, pick the second option.
  • For the Super Complicated one, choose the third option.
  • For the Same As The Second one, select the same choice used for the Super Complicated option from before.

However, Paimon makes a mistake, so you’ll need to repeat the orbital coordinates.

  • Select the Simplest-looking one.
  • Select the Super Complicated one.
  • The third coordinate will appear as the only available option once Paimon remembers it.

Find a way to the surface

When choosing a destination on the ship, rotate the globe until the Unigen’s Circle option shows up.

Things won’t go as planned, and you’ll need to use the emergency evacuation pods. To reach an exit to the surface, absorb the nearby energy and unleash it on the rubble to clear a path.

How to open the passage door

Continue through the Pioneers quest until you reach a closed passage door. Approach the sphere to spawn several energy balls down the slope.

Then:

  1. Hit one of the energy balls into the pedestal.
  2. The passage door will unlock.

Look for Eggie within the ruins

Puzzle #1

While searching for Eggie, you’ll run into puzzles. The first challenge asks you to place three energy balls onto the pedestal to activate the machine and unlock a door. If you look down, you’ll find that the third ball is on a lower floor.

  1. Push the ball into the Launcher and activate it to throw the ball upward.
  2. Push it onto the open pedestal.
  3. Activate the machine to unlock the door.

Puzzle #2

The second puzzle involves a Statis Module. This device locks an item and moves it around. To solve it, look up and absorb the energy from the machine itself to shut it off, freeing the ball.

After that:

  1. Move inside the room and defeat the enemies.
  2. Pick any of the available balls.
  3. Carry it to the pedestal.

How to complete Pioneers quest in Genshin Impact

Follow the quest marker outside, then use the launcher to climb higher until you reach the top. Once you arrive, the quest is completed and you earn the Blue Moon achievement in Genshin Impact. The second act begins shortly after.
