One Piece Episode 1168 Reveals a Brutal New Devil Fruit in the Elbaf Arc
Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece is in the Elbaf arc, and the story has been steadily upping the ante with brand-new Devil Fruit abilities appearing back-to-back. Meanwhile, the anime adaptation from Toei Animation has been putting added attention on the Holy Knights, and the latest episode delivered a particularly nasty surprise. In the One Piece Episode 1168 release on June 28, 2026, viewers got a first look at a Devil Fruit power that feels almost tailor-made for the worst kind of place—straight from hell itself.
In the official Episode 1168 drop on Crunchyroll, the anime offered its first clear look at Shamrock’s Devil Fruit Sword: Cerberus. Cerberus, of course, is the three-headed guardian of the Underworld in Greek mythology, and the show mirrors that idea by positioning Shamrock as the gatekeeper of hell—an area portrayed as secretly packed with demons, both literally and in the more symbolic sense.
One Piece Episode 1168 Highlights Shamrock’s Hell-Themed Devil Fruit Sword, Cerberus
One Piece began its manga run in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #34 on July 19, 1997, quickly becoming a breakout hit with readers. The anime followed after that, with Toei Studio launching the adaptation two years later; Episode 1 premiered on October 20, 1999. Since then, both the manga and the anime have continued strong, and they’re currently aligned in covering the Elbaf arc.
After a period away from the spotlight, the anime returned on April 5, 2026, with episode 1156. Then, on June 28, 2026, the series released episode 1168, titled “Ancient History – The Harley Passed Down by Elbaph.” The episode brought a major reveal tied to one of the Elbaf arc’s key antagonists: Shamrock Figarland, the older twin brother of Shanks. To say goodbye to Loki, Shamrock drew his sword and attacked, and during the exchange the anime showcased a new Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit tied to Cerberus’s hellish power. The fruit’s name is widely presumed to be the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Cerberus. Its ability lets the user—represented here by Shamrock’s sword—transform into Cerberus, the three-headed guardian of the underworld. This Devil Fruit was originally revealed in the manga in Chapter 1138, which was published on February 3, 2025, in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #10. Seeing the full color scheme finally brought to life in anime form made the reveal hit even harder.
The Elbaf arc’s endgame is starting to line up the showdown between the Sun God and the devil—Nerona Imu.
Shamrock’s Devil Fruit Sword Cerberus Is Built Around the Gatekeeper of Hell
The Cerberus power is presented as a Devil Fruit “from hell,” and Oda’s inspiration clearly leans on Greek mythology’s famed guardian. In those myths, Cerberus is a three-headed dog that serves as the gatekeeper of the Underworld, operating under Hades, the deity associated with the dead. In Greek tradition, the Underworld isn’t identical to the modern idea of hell; it’s more accurately a realm where the souls of the deceased reside. Still, the two concepts have become merged in popular understanding over time.
Either way, Shamrock’s sword—armed with these powers—feels far from random. It’s a deliberate piece of storytelling from Eiichiro Oda: the most important Holy Knight being positioned as a gatekeeper for Marijoa, the center of the World Government. Marijoa is also treated as “hell” in the series itself. That comparison shows up in One Piece chapter 1085, released June 5, 2023, in issue #17, and it’s echoed in the anime via Episode 1119 from September 15, 2024.
“I was hoping I’d be able to take you all out in one move. After all, there was no way that I could’ve known that hell was located here, at the top of the world.” — Sabo, calling Marijoa “hell” in One Piece Chapter 1085
Shamrock and Cerberus’s Role in the Road Ahead
With Shamrock set up as the literal gatekeeper of the Underworld, his presence points toward a major future role in One Piece. He’s the twin brother of Shanks, and the story is clearly steering toward a confrontation between them at some point in the Final Saga. Shamrock is positioned as a hard line in front of anyone attempting to challenge the authority of the World Government and the central Devil-wielder tied to the power of Akuma no Mi—Saint Imu Nerona.

For now, the Cerberus sword hasn’t revealed everything it can do, but it’s likely headed for a direct clash with Shanks’s own blade, Gryphon. Gryphon has long been a subject of theory among fans as a Devil Fruit sword as well, and if that holds true, the Final Saga could turn into a face-off between two guardians. Cerberus stands watch over the Underworld and the God of Death, while Gryphon is tied to protection of treasure and is described as an ally to the Sun God Apollo. That contrast mirrors how the story frames loyalty: Shamrock is aligned with Imu, the devil deity and bringer of death, while Shanks is expected to stand with Luffy—the reincarnation of Nika, One Piece’s Sun God.
All episodes of One Piece are available to watch on Crunchyroll. The manga is available to read via Manga Plus and Viz Media.
