NIS America Confirms The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster for 2027 West
NIS America has announced that it will publish the hand-drawn, storybook adventure The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster in the West in 2027. The game is set to arrive on PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Switch, and PC via Steam, featuring Japanese audio and English subtitles.
The title originally launched in Japan for PlayStation 5, Switch 2, and Switch on April 30 under the name Shinigami Hime to Ishokan no Kaibutsu. NIS America says the project comes from the same team behind The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince and The Cruel King and the Great Hero.
A storybook premise: Paper Mortis turns people into books—and monsters
The game’s premise centers on a magical illness called Paper Mortis, which transforms people into illustrated books, and illustrated books into monsters. The journey takes place inside a hand-drawn fairy-tale world, where progress is tied to the pages—one story at a time.
Players follow Mono, a young woman whose sister becomes afflicted with Paper Mortis. To save her from what’s described as an incurable condition, Mono takes on dangerous work and allies herself with Mär, a revenge-driven monster. The goal is to reach the Libratarium, where Mono’s sister is trapped.
What to do in the Libratarium
Gameplay revolves around exploring different storybooks to uncover the fates of the girls who became part of them. Along the way, players will solve puzzles, fight bosses, and push deeper into the Libratarium in pursuit of a cure.
The Grimm Reapress and the Drearytale Monster is planned for a Western release in 2027 on PS5, Switch 2, Switch, and PC (Steam), with Japanese voice acting and English subtitles.
