Moon Hacker Device Guide: Locations, Controls, and Key Effects in Zombies

The Hacker is a special item you can pick up on Moon in both Call of Duty: Black Ops (often referred to as Black Ops 1) and Black Ops 3 Zombies. It’s not going to help you “breathe” in space—but it will let you take control of a wide range of interactable objects. From extra Mystery Box spins and point rewards for your teammates to turning Power-Ups into Max Ammo, the Hacker does a lot. Below, you’ll find every effect it can trigger and where it spawns.

Richtofen’s Grand Scheme is waiting on Moon, a map featured in both Black Ops and Black Ops 3 Zombies. Moon also includes an easter egg, and the guide steps are listed here.

The location and effects are consistent between Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 3, though the visuals vary. For example, what appears as shelves in BO1 shows up as bookcases and workbenches in BO3.

All Hacker Locations on Moon

You’ll locate the Hacker in the labs—these are the rooms on the right side after you flip the power switch and pass the MPD area. Each floor has two possible spawn spots for the Hacker, shown by a yellow paper marker. Since only one player can hold the Hacker at a time, check these exact areas:

  • Opposite Double Tap, located to the left of the entrance door.
  • To the left of the stairs that take you to the second floor.
  • On a shelf to the right right after you climb up to the second floor.
  • On a shelf to the right of the stairs that lead to the third floor.
  • On a shelf behind a chair to the right of Deadshot Daiquiri on the third floor.
  • On a shelf to the left of the doors that head to the Biodome on the third floor.

One important caution: picking up the Hacker means it replaces the P.E.S. suit. That matters because outside oxygen zones—or places with smashed windows—you’ll suffocate. Stick to the Biodome if you’re trying to avoid losing health.

How to Use the Hacker Device (and All Effects) on Moon

Once you have the Hacker, you can interact with certain objects to “hack” them. Here’s what you can do with it on Moon:

  • Hack Excavators in the spawn area to stop them from destroying key sections of the map: prevent Excavator Pi from destroying Tunnel Six, stop Excavator Omicron from destroying Tunnel 11, and halt Excavator Epsilon from destroying the Biodome.
  • Hack the Mystery Box after it’s been used/spun, causing it to spin again for 600 Points.
  • Hack the respun Mystery Box to refund 950 Points and let the weapon inside be picked up by any player.
  • Hack Power-Ups for 5,000 Points to convert them into Max Ammo.
  • Hack Wall-Buy weapons to lower their price and reduce the Pack-a-Punch ammo cost.
  • Hack Perk Machines to refund the Perk and the Points spent.
  • Hack players to grant them 500 Points.
  • Hack Pack-a-Punch to trap yourself in the cage for 30 seconds.
  • Hack zombie barriers to earn 100 Points and instantly build all boards.
  • Hack locked doors to open them for 200 Points.
