Mass Effect 3: Medi-Gel Sabotage Guide—Choices, Fixes, and Outcomes

Citadel: Medi-Gel Sabotage is a side mission in Mass Effect 3 that sends you through the Citadel’s docks to deal with tampered medical equipment. The objective sounds straightforward—find the sabotage, fix the dispensers, and track down what’s behind it—but the mission’s outcome can swing based on choices you made in Mass Effect 1 and 2.

If you’re hunting for something specific, the guide breaks the job down into mission stats, getting to Widow, meeting the refugee camp doctor, a bonus stop involving Conrad Verner (if he’s available), and the dispenser repairs that wrap everything up.

Quick facts

  • Mission Experience: 210 XP
  • Reputation: +5, with a possible extra +10 if Conrad Verner survives
  • Mission Credits: 5,000 credits
  • War Assets (TMS): +90 TMS to Turian Seventh Fleet
  • Dark Energy Dissertation: can be added as a War Asset worth 1 TMS, and boosted by 4 TMS if three related checks are cleared

Video guide

A video walkthrough is listed here as part of the mission coverage, intended to show the flow of the side quest and where the key stops are.

Mission rewards

  • Mission Experience: 210 XP
  • Reputation: +5 / +15
  • Mission Credits: 5,000 credits
  • War Assets: the latter items depend on additional work from earlier Mass Effect games
  • +90 TMS to Turian Seventh Fleet
  • Dark Energy Dissertation (1 TMS)
  • +4 TMS to Dark Energy Dissertation

Travel to Widow

  • Prerequisite: Complete “Priority: The Citadel 2”
  • Location: Serpent Nebula → Widow → Citadel → Docks: Holding Area → Cargo Hold: B

Citadel: Medi-Gel Sabotage only shows up after you finish “Priority: The Citadel 2.” That “Priority” objective refreshes the Citadel with fresh side missions, including this one.

The Citadel is the galaxy’s main hub, and it will always be highlighted in the western sector of the Milky Way map.

Meet the Refugee Camp Doctor

To start the side mission proper, go to Docks: Holding Area, then head to Cargo Hold: B. On the map screen, Cargo Hold: B is the middle cargo bay, identified with a “6.”

When you speak to the Refugee Camp Doctor there, you learn that someone has sabotaged the Medi-Gel dispensers in the area. That sets up the search-and-repair objective you’ll complete next.

Your next steps depend entirely on what the doctor says:

  • If he brings up an individual preaching about Cerberus that C-Sec doesn’t treat as urgent, move to the next section below.
  • If he doesn’t mention anyone else, go directly to the section for that situation.

Meet The Fan

If the doctor complains about someone preaching about Cerberus, there’s an extra step before you can proceed. Head to Bay E24, marked with a “2” on the map screen, and this is where you’ll find the third encounter with…

Conrad Verner.

Yes, Conrad can appear in this side mission—provided he’s still alive. Keeping him available for this moment requires two specific carryover requirements from earlier games.

  • In Mass Effect 1, you must have completed “Citadel: The Fan” using a Charm or Intimidate dialogue option.
  • In Mass Effect 2, you must have completed “Illium: Conrad Verner” without choosing any of these dialogue options: “Get lost, Conrad. We’re done,” “Yes, you screwed up,” or “We’re done here.”

Once Shepard explains that they’re no longer working for Cerberus and that Conrad was used as a distraction, Conrad feels hit especially hard by what happened. He may even apologize for believing Shepard put a gun in his face—despite the fact that they didn’t.

After that, you can earn Morality Points:

  • Select “Can you help me now?” for +2 Paragon Points.
  • Select “Did you poison the medi-gel?” for +2 Renegade Points.

Conrad then offers to assist with whatever Shepard is working on that isn’t tied to Cerberus. Surprisingly, he also mentions writing a Dark Energy Dissertation—one that can be added as a War Asset worth 1 TMS.

Conrad follows that up by offering help tracking down ancient text schematics that could support construction work. However, getting the full benefit takes three separate checks, each tied to completing other assignments in Mass Effect 1.

  1. First, Conrad tries reaching Gavin Hossle, but the war has him running scared. If you completed “Feros: Data Recovery,” Shepard can help Conrad convince him to pass along the schematics.
  2. Second, Conrad learns the schematics are written in an ancient Asari dialect, meaning they’ll require substantial translation work. If you completed “UNC: Asari Writings” by collecting at least ten of Matriarch Dilinaga’s writings, Shepard can forward that collection to support the translation.
  3. Third, Conrad discovers the schematics fall under an existing patent held by Elkoss Combine. If you purchased the Elkoss Combine Armory License from the Volus Expat in the Citadel’s Upper Markets, or from Opold in Port Hanshan on Noveria, Shepard can forward that permission as well.

If you clear all three checks listed above, the schematics are successfully added. That boosts the Dark Energy Dissertation by an additional 4 TMS.

Repair the Medi-Gel Dispensers

No matter what you did with Conrad, the mission now pushes you to locate and repair three Medi-Gel Dispensers, also referred to as Medical Stations. In the area you’ll actually find four of these stations, but you only need to fix the first three you run into and then continue onward. Fixing all four is optional.

When the repairs are done, return to the Refugee Camp Doctor at Cargo Hold: B and talk to him. If Conrad Verner isn’t present, that ends the mission with the culprit still free and no dramatic resolution.

If Conrad is present, he arrives on scene and notices his Cerberus contact. He tries to have the contact arrested, but the contact shoots at Shepard, and Conrad steps in to take the hit. Shepard then knocks out the contact and approaches Conrad, who begins to deliver his dying words…

…unless you pass one final check.

If you completed “Citadel: Rita’s Sister” in Mass Effect 1, Rita will have sabotaged the contact’s pistol ahead of time. That allows Conrad to survive. From there, Conrad and Shepard connect over their familiarity and walk away as friends, leaving you with a resolution that’s as surprising as Shepard’s own reaction.

However the mission plays out, the base rewards remain: 210 XP, 5,000 credits, and +5 Reputation, plus reinforcement for the Turian Seventh Fleet by 5 TMS. If Conrad Verner was present and survived, you gain an extra +10 Reputation.
