About a month after the defeat of Sovereign in Mass Effect 1, Commander Shepard and the Normandy crew begin searching the galaxy for the last remaining Geth strongholds. The campaign takes a sudden turn when they encounter Cerberus and learn that Reaper agents are already spreading terror among humanity—before they even fully arrive.

Prologue

To take down the Collectors, Shepard must push through the Omega-4 Relay in order to hit the Collectors at their base—an operation described as effectively suicidal. To give Shepard the best possible chance, the Illusive Man tasks them with traveling and building an elite team capable of completing the mission.

Assemble a Team: Part 1

After a reunion in the colony of Horizon, the Illusive Man sends Shepard three additional dossiers. The goal is to recruit a set of highly skilled specialists to round out the team before the operation against the Collectors begins.

Assemble a Team: Part 2

Recruitment is only part of the job. Shepard also needs to address the personal and psychological state of the crew, since unresolved “old ghosts” from the past can resurface. The guide emphasizes that the team must be at their best if Shepard wants any realistic path to defeating the Collectors.

Loyalty Missions

Once the team is in place, Shepard boards an extremely risky craft to retrieve a device that could make the Omega-4 Relay passable. Unfortunately, events take a turn for the worse, escalating the stakes until Shepard is forced to make the jump straight to the Collector base of operations.
