Leny Yoro Stars on France Debut in 4-1 Win Over Belgium
Leny Yoro made a memorable first appearance for France’s senior side as Les Bleus recovered from an early setback to defeat Belgium 4-1 at the Stade de France. The Manchester United centre-back was selected alongside Chelsea’s Maxence Lacroix after spending France’s previous three matches on the bench, and handled the occasion with considerable assurance in front of his family in Paris.
Belgium had moved ahead through Dodi Lukebakio, but France turned the contest around with four late goals. Yoro’s contribution at the back was central to the recovery, with the 20-year-old winning each of the nine duels he contested while helping contain Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku. It was a convincing senior introduction for the former Lille defender, whose route through France’s youth teams had led to his first start at international level.
Yoro described the evening as close to ideal after the final whistle, particularly with the fixture taking place at home and his relatives in attendance. He admitted France would have preferred not to concede, but said the result and the nature of the occasion made it an exceptional night.
France coach Zidane was equally pleased with the defender’s debut, praising Yoro for carrying out his responsibilities effectively and producing a strong all-round performance. The victory leaves France top of Nations League Group A on 10 points after four games, with the side still unbeaten under Zidane.
Yoro will now return to Carrington ahead of a demanding run of Premier League fixtures for Manchester United. His composed display against Belgium provides an encouraging marker as he looks to turn international progress into a more regular place in United’s defence.
